2023 could well end up being the year of Ricky Starks in All Elite Wrestling. He would end 2022 with a shot at the AEW World Championship, being unsuccessful in taking down MJF due to a low blow – but started this year with a massive victory over Chris Jericho. These were easily his two biggest matches in his AEW career, but that didn’t make them his favorite matches he’s had in the company.
Ricky Starks Names Two Favorite Matches In AEW So Far
While speaking on the Rewind with Besa podcast, ahead of his match with Jericho, Starks was asked what his favorite matches in AEW so far have been. Starks had the following matches in mind.
“My first favorite match would be against Cody Rhodes. That was the match where I made my debut on Dynamite. That was the match that helped me get a contract with AEW. Also, too, that’s one of my good friends. So that sticks out in my head as one of my favorite matches. The other being againt another Seattle hometown hero, Darby Allin. I had a match against him as well. So that’d be a second.”
Darby Allin & The TNT Championship Could Be In The Sights Of Stark Soon
The lone singles match between Allin & Starks came in September of 2020, with a set of tag team matches as well. With Starks being a rising star in AEW and Allin as the new TNT Champion, it’s possible we see this match happen again in 2023 with gold on the line. Starks has noted that becoming TNT Champion is a goal for 2023, though that will need to wait.
This is because Starks feud with Jericho is not over, with the Jericho Appreciation Society getting the last laugh with a major beatdown. He seems to have found an ally in Action Andretti, with a tag match potentially on the way. Jericho is likely to lose this feud, with a potential final match coming on PPV at Revolution.
