The return of Saraya from her premature retirement due to a neck injury was one of the best feel good stories of professional wrestling in 2022. Taking place of All Elite Wrestling, the former Paige of WWE would return to in-ring action for the first time in 5 years when she defeated former AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker at Full Gear. Her first match of 2023 will happen later this week, but Saraya has confirmed that even without AEW – a return to the ring was possible, thanks to Triple H in WWE.
Triple H Was Ready To Let Saraya Wrestle Again In WWE
While speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Saraya would speak on the reaction from Triple H when he learned Saraya was leaving the company. He had offered her both a position as a GM, or an in-ring return. Saraya had the following to say about her former boss from her NXT days.
“Man, I do love Hunter, he’s so fantastic. He was like, ‘Wait what happened?!’ I was like, ‘I dunno, they haven’t renewed my contract.’ He was like, ‘Oh my gosh! Well I didn’t know that, so I’m sorry!’ He was really fantastic. He did give me the opportunity to potentially be a GM again, and give me the opportunity to be like, ‘If you ever potentially want to wrestle again, I’ll give you that opportunity too.’ He was very open about any ideas that I had,.
Triple H had offered Saraya a role as a GM in WWE during the summer of 2022, which was turned down in favour of taking a chance on AEW.
Lots Of Hype For Her First Match Of 2023 Due To Potential Of Ex WWE Star
There is a lot of hype around her upcoming tag team match set for the January 11th episode of AEW Dynamite. While she named Toni Storm as her partner to face the duo of Britt Baker and AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter, there is still speculation that she will end up teaming with a debuting Sasha Banks – now wrestling under the name of Mercedes Mone.
When Saraya named her partner, she did so in a way that pissed off Hikaru Shida – who seems likely to take Storm down to prove a point, leaving Saraya to find a last minute replacement. There is no confirmation that Mone will be wrestling on AEW Dynamite on Wednesday but there’s enough smoke to call it a fire. We will bring live coverage of the event, ensuring this is one of the first places you will find out if Mone shows up in AEW.
