With 2022 having come to an end, some fans have stepped back to take a look at how various companies treated their female talent over the course of the year. Women’s wrestling has been surging in popularity over the past decade, and some companies do their best to embrace that. All Elite Wrestling is at the bottom of the list, averaging only a single match from their talent women’s division on an episode of AEW Dynamite. WWE is near the top of the list – especially on their NXT brand. However, no company has gotten behind their female talent like Impact Wrestling has – and Taya Valkyrie knows why.
Impact Wrestling Gives Their Women The Time To Show Their Skills On Every Show
While speaking on the RetroChat Podcast, Valkyrie would give her thoughts on why Impact Wrestling has to work harder to be recognized, especially when it comes to the Knockouts division. Valkyrie was quoted saying the following.
“I definitely think that we are, just overall as a roster — I’m going to say this for all of IMPACT — we are a bunch of misfit toys and we all have to just work a lot harder sometimes to get the recognition when we’re putting out a lot of work. For the women, we are given time. You will see more than one women’s match on an IMPACT show, on a pay-per-view. The tag team titles are being pushed at the forefront, along with multiple Knockouts’ matches — from grudge matches to death matches to Last Woman Standing and Ultimate X and Queen of the Mountain and all that stuff. So that is what sets us apart.”
Ever since Impact Wrestling (then TNA Wrestling) started up the Knockouts Division, they have almost been the golden standard in North America. Years before WWE started taking women’s wrestling seriously, Impact was already there – starting with the amazing matches between Gail Kim & Awesome Kong. In 2022, WWE might have hit higher heights with their women’s division – but Impact now finds strength in how consistently they book their female talent.
