Now that 2022 is firmly in the rear view mirror of life, it’s easy to look at just who the most reliable name in a turbulent year was for All Elite Wrestling. There was one man who Tony Khan was able to rely upon time and time again, and that is Jon Moxley. Twice in the year he’d pick up the ball after it was dropped by CM Punk, and knocked his chances out of the park every single time – prompting Tony Khan to name him the companies MVP in 2022.
Jon Moxley Was The AEW MVP Of 2022, Per Tony Khan
While speaking on the In The Kliq podcast, Tony Khan had the following to say about how valuable Jon Moxley was to AEW in 2022.
“Well, 2022, Jon Moxley was certainly an MVP for AEW in so many ways. He was a great World Champion throughout the year. Also, really came back at the beginning of the year, after he took some time off to get his personal life in order and get his health in order. He has come back better than ever, looking better than ever. His motivation is through the roof, and week in, week out, Jon Moxley’s having the best matches and he is consistently, to me, doing the best work of his entire career … No matter what was happening in the company week in and week out in 2022, you could count on Jon Moxley to really be a leader in AEW and be one of the top stars.”
Right now, Jon Moxley has been written off TV for a time following his brutal match with Hangman Page on the January 11th episode of AEW Dynamite. Moxley would be helped to the back by officials after being dropped with the Buckshot Lariat. There were no injury reports coming out of that show, leading many to believe this was simply a storyline injury to give Moxley a few weeks off, and add fuel to Page vs. Moxley III for a future PPV.
