‘General Hospital’ (GH) Spoilers love how soap operas are known for following particular formulas to redeem their characters.
It can be anything from them suddenly realizing the extent of their actions to it being overlooked and dealt with at a later time.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Is Amnesia the New Character Redemption Tool?
No crime ever seems to go unforgiven by at least someone, and those characters often become the dominating force on the show.
Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) is one of those as he’s a mob boss, but he’s romanticized version of a of mob boss people prefer to see. He’s kind, considerate, and work with the local authorities by sharing some information for the benefit of everyone.
But he has a dark streak that’s kept him alive and in power during his career, and it’s still there despite him being even kinder and gentler now.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Amnesia is the new life hack
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers didn’t think of it at the time, but Sonny being in Nixon Falls as Mike may have been a test run for a new or rarely used redemption/character altering angle.
Since his amnesia, he’s been a different person and it’s allowed more character growth for Sonny as he’s been exploring new relationships.
It also look like the way the show writers are redeeming the irredeemable Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl). Unlike Sonny, Esme was a certifiable sociopath who seemed to have to sympathy or conscience when it came to the acts she was committing.
But since she bounced out of Wyndemere she has no memory of who or what she was, and the writers have made us feel sorry for her as she’s terrified at seeing Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) kill a guard.
Being whisked away by Heather Webber (Ally Mills) isn’t making it any easier for her either, but before this she was horrified at the crimes she committed.
It’s almost doing the impossible in salvaging her character, and while there will be a long road ahead for her seeking any redemption, it looks like her amnesia will be the key.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Turning the page
Assuming she follows Sonny’s path when she gets her memory back and her new experiences temper her vengeful mindset, Esme is more than capable of growing as a character and seeking redemption.
It’s probably the only way for her to do it after what she’s done and the bridges she’s burned, and it could open up some interesting storylines.
Unfortunately, with them using this so soon after Sonny’s transformation, there’s a chance is could be very similar to Sonny’s journey, including finding a new romance to help her stabilize.
