Even though this show had many big names, it doesn’t always translate to a good show, match, or segment. Lets take a look at and discus the worse parts of the show.
The Bad from AEW Dark
Before we start this week, I wanted to say that a few weeks ago, I said that I would like if AEW used Dark and Dark Elevation to help promote and catch fans up that may not watch Dynamite or Rampage.
I think that lately, AEW has been doing a great job of making Dark and Elevation seem more in the AEW ecosystem of shows than before. My issue here is small but something that stands out to me.
I hate that there always has to be some type of big event going on in AEW. I am not talking about the titled television shows like Battle of the Belts, those are great. I am talking about every time that they go into a new market or make a debut in a city or region, there has to be some big announcement for it.
They are going to be having their first show in San Francisco soon and while it is a milestone for the company, I don’t think that it is big enough to advertise it as a big deal, especially when you just came from Oregon and Los Angeles on tour.
Getting into the matches, the first match on this list is the Rush match. I mentioned this in my good things from AEW Dark article this week, but I have noticed that whenever AEW has a big match coming up for the week, they tend to put that name on Dark or Dark Elevation to get an easy win.
Some may see this as getting them warmed up for the match but I don’t see it that way. I think that it is more of AEW wanting to be able to say that Takeshita or Rush is 5-0 instead of 4-0 because it looks better.
I know that the 4 or 5 number comes from absolute throw away matches and most of the time whenever they wrestle someone of note, they are going to lose. I think that AEW is scared of having their names lose and choose to pad the stats instead of letting the wrestlers that have legit good records lose.
We all know that with MJF and Danielson getting ready to wrestle for the title very soon, that there is no way that Rush is beating Danielson and Takeshita is not beating MJF.
Moving on, I hate that I have to put a Keira Hogan match on this list. I love her in the ring and like her energy, but the crowd didn’t care about this match at all. They were more excited to see the Outrunners than this match and that is crazy to me.
Even though I think that this match went a little too long, it was good. You could very clearly hear all of the screaming and grunts from the ladies, which is something that should be a part of the match not the match itself.
For some reason, I think I remember Taz and Excalibur being eerily silent also which is unusual. Even if they started plugging things from upcoming AEW events instead of talking about the match, that would’ve been fine, but I just remember silence.
Lastly, the Dalton Castle and Dante Casanova match was good? The match was WAY longer than it should have been. The part of the match that was actually a match was solid. The rest of it was Castle running around the ring with the boys and Castle’s entrance.
I usually hate long squash matches like this for established wrestlers. If it is going to be this long, the other guy needs to win. I don’t think that it would’ve been the worst thing if Casanova would’ve won. I actually like his look and size.
I think that he could be something down the line. As far as Dalton goes, I like him too. I think that he is severely miscast in AEW/ROH. He would be a natural fit in NXT/WWE.
