This week’s episode of AEW Dark Elevation was the most half and half episode of Elevation that I have ever covered. While most of the show was pretty good, I think that there was a lot of things that stood out to me as not being as good as usual. Here are my thoughts on the worst parts of AEW Dark Elevation.
The Bad from AEW Dark Elevation
This show started out on a bad note. While the Ohio crowd was hot for most of the night and even for most of the matches that I didn’t like, they were dead for this one.
I hate it because while Paul Wright was in the commentary booth trying his best to call the match alone, his commentary partner was in the ring putting on one of the driest matches that I have seen in AEW in a long time.
I think that I would’ve preferred for the match to be flat out not good, but this match wasn’t that. It was just boring and the crowd treated it as such.
Next up, the Dark Order match just didn’t do it for me. While I will say that there is nothing wrong with the match at all, I just don’t like to see the Dark Order on my television. It is a personal problem. The crowd loves them and that is all that matters.
With this being said, I do enjoy the backstage segments trying to get people to join the Dark Order that they have been doing. This week they tried to get Dalton Castle’s Boys to join them. It was very entertaining.
Moving on, the Orange Cassidy and the Best Friends against Zack Clayton and the SAP match was completely unneeded. I am not the biggest fan of Orange Cassidy but if the match is good, it is good.
I could look at the people involved in this match and tell that there was going to be a lot of BS. For wrestling fans that like BS, here you go, but for fans that don’t, turn away. Don’t get me wrong, I like BS every now and then, but at least let it be good BS.
Like I said with the Dark Order match, even though I didn’t like this match, the fans loved it, loved seeing Orange Cassidy and the Best Friends and that is all that matters. It was still bad though.
Lastly, the eight woman tag team match involving Diamante, Nyla Rose, Marina Shafir, and Emi Sakura against Skye Blue, Hyena Hera, Madison Rayne, and Queen Aminata was confusing. I don’t think that the women involved knew what was going on at times.
This is an example of when people say that AEW books meaningless matches with nothing behind them. I know that this is technically their fourth ranked show but come on. I don’t expect there to be a deep story behind this match, but this match did not have to happen.
Why are these teams together when we haven’t seen many these women do anything together? I think that they could’ve took any combination of these women and made it a tag match and got much better results and 100% guaranteed, a much better match.
I hope that this is the last time that AEW book a match like this. These ladies deserve better even if they don’t get much time on television. And the announcers didn’t even get a chance to say Hyena Hera’s name during the match. I wanted to know who she was.
