Many fans were wondering “who will be first to challenge” when The Elite would win their nail biting Best of 7 Series with Death Triangle to kick off their second reign as AEW World Trios Champions. While Top Flight & AR Fox are set to get their shot next week as part of AEW Dynamite, The Firm would jump the line. Ethan Page, Isiah Kassidy & Matt Hardy will get their shot tonight – in a match that Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson might simply view as a tune up match ahead of Dynamite.
The Elite Defend The AEW World Trios Championships Against The Firm
Nick would kick things off with Kassidy, engaging in a fast paced grappling exchange which ended with a super arm drag out of the corner before an arm lock in the middle of the ring. Matt would get the tag, hitting a signature double team neckbreaker with Nick. Omega & Hardy would hit the ring, two men who have a deep respect for each other.
Hardy would be shoved off the ropes, before having the leapfrog scouted. Twist Of Fate would be blocked, but V-Trigger would be avoided. Hardy would look for the Side Effect, with Omega shoved out of the floor. Omega would be in position for a moonsault from Hardy, with Page instead hitting a diving shoulder tackle off the apron.
Page would meet Omega in the ring, only to instead be met by some tag team offence from The Young Bucks. Kassidy got the tag, only to take the super Kotoro Crusher from The Elite. Omega would hold Page & Kassidy in place on the floor, allowing Young Bucks to hit the Wrecking Ball dropkick and plancha. Matt would look for the Northern Lights Suplex in the ring, but got Page instead of Hardy.
Page would be able to distract Matt for long enough, allowing Hardy to hit the Side Effect. He’d demand the tag into the match, and punished the spine of Matt with a backbreaker. Page would bark orders to Kassidy to put his boot up, before sending Matt into it face first. Kassidy would tag in and keep the pressure on Matt in the corner, before tagging in Hardy to do the same.
Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks Remain The Top Trio In AEW
Hardy would hit the Splash Mountain bomb out of the corner, with Nick in to break the pinfall up. Page would stop the diving leg drop, before mocking Hardy and jumping into a superkick. Omega would get the tag, and The Cleaner would live up to his name as he took down Kassidy & Page with ease.
Page would be hit with the Rolling Fireman’s Carry into the Springboard Moonsault, getting a two count. Omega would fall victim to the numbers game briefly, before a Poetry In Motion attempt was blocked into a Superkick Party. Hardy & Omega would both take Swanton Bombs as Nick & Kassidy would soar.
Matt would drop Kassidy with a superkick, before taking the powerslam from Page. Omega would hit a V-Trigger to the face of Page, before Nick & Kassidy would trade strikes in the middle of the ring. Rising knee into the bulldog would punish Kassidy, before a three way superkick was stopped by Page & Hardy. Kassidy would hit the Canadian Destroyer, before Poetry in Motion and the double Iconoclasm into Twist of Fate.
Matt & Omega would break the pinfall up, before Hardy would catch Page with an accidental elbow. Nick was caught out of the sky with a cutter from Kassidy, but kicked out at two. V-Trigger would follow before One Winged Angel & BTE Trigger for The Elite victory.
