Fans would recently see Eddie Kingston show his true colours once again in All Elite Wrestling. After a lengthy period as a fan favourite, his feud with Malakai Black & The House Of Black would lead to him turning on longtime friend Ortiz. This betrayal took place on the January 20th episode of AEW Rampage, where Kingston would bash Ortiz in the spine with a steel chair. Since then, we haven’t seen much of Kingston in AEW – and the reason being is that he is currently injured.
Eddie Kingston Pulled From Defy Wrestling Event Due To Injury
This would be confirmed when Kingston would be pulled from the card of Pro Wrestling Defy event. Kingston was booked as part of their 6th anniversary event, where he was set to face rising star Artemis Spencer. Other AEW talent would still be set to show up at the event, with Swerve Strickland facing Titus Alexander, and Jon Moxley teaming with Schaff against Zack Sabre Jr. and Davey Richards.
Defy would have the following to say about the status of Kingston earlier today.
“DEFY has learned that due to injury EDDIE KINGSTON will no longer be able to compete at tonight’s YEAR6.
EDDIE is super bummed and we wish him a speedy recovery. We’ll have him back for a future event!”
Kingston Seems To Be Ready For NJPW Match With Jay White
The last time Kingston wrestled was for the Jay Briscoe Tribute Show, where he defeated QT Marshall. There was no clear sign of injury during this match, meaning it was likely suffered while training. Kingston has not commented on his injury, but would reply to backstage moments made by Jay White ahead of Battle In The Valley next Saturday.
Hopefully this means Kingston only suffered a minor injury, and made the choice to heal up rather than risk more time off by wrestling on a smaller stage like Defy Wrestling. We will hopefully have more information on the nature of Kingston’s injury in the coming days. With Kingston being a man who hasn’t forgotten his indy wrestling roots, there is little doubt he will make it up to fans of Defy Wrestling in 2023 – when he’s less in demand.
