Jeremy Clarkson reportedly apologised to Prince Harry over his comments about his wife, Meghan Markle, in an effort to protect his beer brand.
Jeremy Clarkson Reportedly Apologised To Prince Harry About His Meghan Markle Comments Only To Save His Beer Brand
It is understood that he was persuaded to write the apology after he wrote a newspaper piece where he expressed his wish that the Duchess of Sussex would one day be marched through the streets of the UK and have people shouting insults and throwing excrement at her.
The column was met with strong disapproval, and the Independent Press Standards Organisation had more than twenty thousand grievances brought against it.
But now the Mail on Sunday states that a mutual acquaintance encouraged the ex-Top Gear host to reach out to the Prince after some pubs refused to sell his Hawkstone beer due to his remarks about Meghan.
Johnny Hornby, who is connected to Harry’s Sentebale charity as well as being Clarkson’s business partner, was allegedly the mastermind behind the apology.
A source confirmed the following: “Johnny is friends with both Jeremy and Harry so he was kind of in the middle of it all.
“He suggested that it would be a good idea for Jeremy to apologise. It was, after all, at a time when the beer’s reputation was being affected.”
If those comments are taken to be true, then it is very significant for the following reasons. First of all, it may suggest that Clarkson’s apology was not a sincere one, but merely was done in order to save face.
Secondly, it may also explain why Clarkson’s apology was addressed to Harry, as opposed to Meghan, even though the latter had been the subject of the harsh article. The response on social media was brutal.
Large numbers of people bashed Clarkson on the basis that he was coming across in a distasteful manner. One person wrote: “He a pathetic loser and I hope he takes a bigger fall. We can knock down these demons. We have to try.”
