Mickey Rourke spoke out in strong support for Alec Baldwin after a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter was filed against the actor in connection to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Mickey Rourke Defends Alec Baldwin By Claiming The Actor Should Not Be Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter-‘No Way In Hell’
The 70-year-old star took to Instagram to share his opinion. The 42-year-old Hutchins was killed when Baldwin held a gun while rehearsing a scene for the movie “Rust,” and a live round was discharged.
In his comments, Mickey said: “It’s a terrible tragedy what happened to cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. But no way in hell actor Alec Baldwin should be charged with any negligence whatsoever.”
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on “Rust”, also stands accused of involuntary manslaughter. The assistant director of the film, David Halls, has also made a plea of guilty to the charge of irresponsible handling of a dangerous weapon.
Baldwin has consistently declared that he was not responsible for firing the gun – shortly after the shooting incident. Initially, he expressed that he had pulled the hammer back to the furthest point and then let it go, but he had not pulled the trigger.
Following the declaration of accusations, Baldwin’s lawyer, Luke Nikas, spoke of it as a miscarriage of justice. In his comments at the time, Luke remarked: “Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun — or anywhere on the movie set.
“He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds. We will fight these charges, and we will win.”
The fans on social media had a different take on Mickey’s comments. A certain subset of people were of the view that Mickey would not be saying the same thing if he was connected to Halyna’s family.
One person wrote: “If the lady that died were a family member of his how would this washed up nobody feel at that time.”
