Danielle de Niese, an opera singer, revealed that she found Meghan Markle’s assertions of extensive racism in the UK to be very disturbing.
Opera Singer Danielle de Niese Left Disturbed By Meghan Markle’s Racism Allegations-‘Very Unsettling’
De Niese is a renowned woman of colour in her field and has tied the knot with an affluent British family. She married Gus Christie, who happens to be the chairman of Glyndebourne opera festival.
She has voiced her disagreement with the Duchess’ statements in the explosive interviews with Oprah Winfrey. With that being said, Danielle felt she was qualified to speak on the matter.
In her comments, she said: “I find that very unsettling. It’s not to say that racism isn’t everywhere, because it is, but I don’t think you can tar everyone with the same brush like that.
“To say a whole community of people are racist, that hasn’t been my experience.” The 43-year-old vocalist, whose parents are from Sri Lanka, spent her youth in Australia before leaving for the US as a youngster with her family.
So when it came to Meghan, she had a different opinion about the couple’s allegations about racism in the Royal Family – which Harry has backtracked from in later interviews by referring to it as ‘unconscious bias.’
As such, Danielle had no sympathy for Meghan. Her following comments confirmed as much: “I am a mixed-race person and I have married a man who is not in the Royal Family but is still part of a big institution.
“I’ve set out to support my husband and learn about the people around me. I very much set about learning about what happens here.” The response on social media was much the same.
A large proportion of people made it clear that they had no time for what the Duchess of Sussex had to say. One person wrote: “Why care what Megan says ? Is anyone actually listening anymore ? Lol.”
