The Royal Rumble matches had a lot of interesting developments and possible storyline implications in it. With the road to WrestleMania underway, these are some of the storylines on Raw that will carry us to at least Elimination Chamber later this month.
Becky Lynch vs Bayley
This is a storyline that has been going on already. With no number one contender for the Raw Women’s Championship until after Elimination Chamber, these two women have the top women spot on the show.
Most likely, this feud will continue until WrestleMania, but now it seems to be in a holding pattern. There is a possibility that there might be at least one or two more of the same matches before WrestleMania.
I am not sure if this will be the best built matchup or if it will even be interesting for an extended period.
Bayley has proven that she one of the most entertaining women that they have on the roster and Becky Lynch is the most popular woman that they have.
On paper, it sounds like there is nothing that could go wrong, but for some reason, this feud has not been hitting like I think that it should be.
Maybe they need to spend some time apart or add something to the feud to make it take off better or make it more interesting. I am not sure of what it would be other than adding another person.
Austin Theory vs Everyone
This is a very open storyline. It takes a special type of person to be able to make almost everyone, no matter if they are a babyface or heel, hate you and want to beat you up.
Add to this, he has something that everyone wants. I remember when Theory lost the Money in the Bank briefcase the way that he did, everyone thought that he was done and buried but months later, the is the top champion on Mondays.
Everyone wants a shot at him from Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley to Bronson Reed and Johnny Gargano. He is in a very good spot and because the United States title will be defended in one of the Elimination Chamber matches.
This means that leading up to the Elimination Chamber live event, he will have five people to feud with and if he doesn’t lose the title then he would have someone to feud with leading up to WrestleMania.
Finn Balor/The Judgement Day vs Edge and Beth Pheonix
The storyline that will never end. I hope that pretty soon it will. The story has been going on since Dom was a babyface.
The wrinkle of Dom turning heel and joining The Judgement Day added some more steam to the feud, but with Edge being a part time worker, the storyline as a whole has been start and stop.
There are unfinished stories with Dominik for causing most of this in the first place. Finn for beating him in the I Quit match by using his wife. Priest for being the first person that he took under his wing and turning on him.
With all of these stories going on, Edge being there every now and then just isn’t enough to sustain this storyline.
This also put a stall on what Judgement Day can do on a week-to-week basis. I think that with WrestleMania coming up, Edge will be on the show more but how many times can he wrestle the same people on top of the number of times that he already did?
