Another week and another WWE lawsuit—this time from a WrestleMania 38 attendee. This lawsuit is a bit questionable as Marvin Jackson is suing for injuries he claimed were caused by the pyro at the event.
WWE to Combat $1 MILLION Lawsuit for Alleged Injuries Caused by WrestleMania 38 Pyro
Jackson claims that on April 3, 2022 he was sitting next to the entrance stage where he would’ve been closest to the pyrotechnics. When the pyro went off at the top of the event his hearing was blown, according to Jackson. He has also lost most of his hearing in his left ear, according to the filing.
The lawsuit was filed in January 2023 before being moved from the Tarrant County District Court to the U.S District Court for the Northern District of Texas on February 17, 2023. WWE was listed as the defendant and is accused of not warning those in the audience about how dangerous pyro can be to your hearing. The company is being accused of negligence and faces having to pay $1 million in damages if found at fault.
Honestly, this seems like the result could be a precedent for future events such as sports competitions and concerts that use pyro. The Super Bowl features a ton of pyro as do large wrestling events. Every week, there’s pyro on WWE television and it sounds loud even on television.
This really seems like something you know heading in. You know sitting close to the ramp or stage of a wrestling event could result in some tinnitus at the minimum and hearing loss at worse. Sure, we don’t expect it but it’s obvious given WWE has used pyro weekly since the 1990s.
What do you think? Will WWE win this one or is the company at fault for not telling someone going to a stadium event that anything involving explosives will likely be very loud? Let us know down below!
