Back at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door – Adam Cole nearly saw the end of his career as a professional wrestler. A nasty concussion put him on the shelf for the rest of the year, and put his future in question.
However, Cole never stopped fighting – and is now ready to step back into the ring for his first match of 2023. While Cole has been gone, Daniel Garcia has continued to evolve as a wrestler, and claimed that Cole has missed his chance to become the man in AEW. Tonight, Garcia steps into the ring with Cole – who looks to remind everyone just who he is.
Daniel Garcia Looks To Put Adam Cole Back On The Injured List
Cole would lock up with Garcia in the middle of the ring, grabbing a wrist lock as commentary reminded everyone he’s a three time ROH World Champion and the winner of the 2022 Owen Hart Memorial Cup.
Garcia would slip behind Cole and hit the mat return before mouthing off to Cole. Cole was sent off the ropes, but nailed the shoulder tackle.
Garcia tried to go for the leapfrog, with Cole having this well scouted – stopping Garcia in his tracks before a side headlock takeover.
Cole would take a piledriver as Garcia fought free, trying to put Cole back on the shelf – with Cole rolling to the floor to recover. Garcia would look for a second piledriver on the floor, with Cole able to counter with a back body drop – getting more time to recover.
Back in the ring, Garcia would bend Cole back while stomping on Cole’s hair, adding some extra tension. Cole would be choked on the ring ropes, before Garcia just hit a simple punch between the eyes – saying that Cole simply can’t do this anymore.
Cole would be able to fight back, nailing some lariats and a pump kick – grabbing at his neck between each strike. Ushigoroshi would follow, getting Cole a two count – with Garcia kicking Cole in the neck while on the mat.
A Win Nine Months In The Making – Chris Jericho Takes Notice
A superkick to a kneeling Garcia was blocked, before Garcia would catch Cole with a big German Suplex. Cole would try to set up The Boom – with Garcia ducking and hitting some Hammer & Anvil Elbow Strikes. Garcia would move into a choke, with Cole able to counter into a pinfall.
Panama Sunrise would be set up, with Garcia able to roll through and set up the Dragon Tamer – with Cole able to find the bottom rope and survive.
A cross armed piledriver in the middle of the ring followed from Garcia, but Cole refused to give up. Cole was able to set up and hit the Panama Sunrise, and lowered the kneepad – nailing The Boom for the win.
After the match, Britt Baker would come out to celebrate with her partner before they were covered in streamers. Cole would have a chance to soak it all in before Chris Jericho came to the ring to collect Garcia.
He’d take a long look back at Cole, before heading to the back – potentially setting the stage for things to come. Will Chris Jericho go after Adam Cole next? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
