Blackpool Combat Club are done being the good guys in AEW, and are now simply letting their violent tendencies win out.
They have torn down Dark Order piece by piece, and potentially are the ones responsible for taking out The Young Bucks. Last week’s episode of Dynamite closed out with them attacking Kenny Omega – and tonight, they take aim at some more fan favourites.
They face former ROH World Six Man Tag Team Champions Dalton Castle & The Boys – and look to leave them broken like everyone else who has crossed their paths lately.
Blackpool Combat Club Don’t Get Paid By The Hour
Castle & The Boys didn’t even hit the ring before being attacked from behind by Blackpool Combat Club. Moxley took Castle while Yuta & Castagnoli went after Brandon & Brent Tate.
Castagnoli would throw Brandon around the ring, as Moxley choked Castle on the floor. A deadlift chokeslam and Ricola Bomb later – and the undefeated 7-0 trios record of Castle & The Boys is over just like that.
The BCC didn’t even break a sweat – and are now on their way to Ring of Honor: Supercard of Honor. There, Claudio Castagnoli will defend the ROH World Championship against Eddie Kingston, while Wheeler Yuta defends the ROH Pure Rules Championship against New Japan Pro Wrestling legend Katsuyori Shibata.
Moxley is not currently booked for this event, but is always itching for a fight – and there’s still time to pick one. We’d get an update on the Young Bucks – who were allegedly beaten down by the BCC last week.
Hangman Page offered an update on his old friends, saying Nick Jackson has a separated shoulder, and Matt Jackson has a torn bicep. Page would be swarmed by Blackpool Combat Club while speaking with Don Callis – who was also left bloody by the BCC.
Kenny Omega Flies Solo Against Jeff Cobb With IWGP United States Championship On The Line
Back on January 4th, Kenny Omega reminded everyone just who he was when he defeated Will Ospreay in his NJPW return to become a two time IWGP United States Champion. The following night, he would cross paths with Jeff Cobb – who would call for the first title shot.
Now tonight, Cobb gets his chance as he makes his way onto AEW TV. In 2019, Cobb was called upon by Chris Jericho to take down Jon Moxley, and in 2022 appeared as part of the United Empire – but tonight he’s got his own interests in mind.
Normally for big singles matches, Omega has Callis in his corner – but needs to fly solo tonight. Cobb would force Omega to the ropes, and allowed the clean break, taking the chance to taunt.
Omega would try to drop Cobb with a shoulder tackle, but Cobb was like a brick wall. Cobb would try for a lariat, but was ducked and sent to the floor with a hurricanrana. Omega would soar with the Terminator Dive – dropping Cobb.
Back in the ring, the Kotoro Crusher would land, before Omega tried for a powerslam – with Cobb simply shifting his weight and landing on top of Omega.
Cobb would hit a Running Brainbuster, before whipping Omega hard into the corner. Omega would be taken to the floor, and driven into the ring post. Cobb would mock Omega on the floor, before hitting a headbutt to the ribs.
Omega Proves Why He’s Elite
Omega would fight back in the ring with some jabs, but Cobb easily dropped him with a stiff strike of his own. Bear Hug would be applied, putting pressure on the ribs of Omega – with Omega striking his way free. Omega would hit a boot to the face, only to be whipped off the mat with the Spin Cycle Suplex.
Cobb tried for a German Suplex, only for Omega to land on his feet and hit the Spinning Polish Hammer. Cobb would tank this, but a Backslide into the V-Trigger got a close two count for Omega.
Omega would hit the Snap Dragon Suplex, with a second quickly following. Quick offence is key to beating someone like Cobb, and a V-Trigger set up a third suplex – with Cobb rolling to his feet and into a lariat – a pure show of fighting spirit.
Omega & Cobb would fight to their feet, trading strikes with Cobb winning out – before hitting a giant leaping elbow into the corner. A superplex would follow, sending Omega from the top rope into the middle of the ring. Standing Moonsault from Cobb followed, getting another near fall.
Cobb attempted the One Winged Angel on Omega – but Omega slipped free. A set of V-Triggers in the ropes would follow, before Omega nailed the One Winged Angel for the victory. Omega retains the IWGP United States Championship, his first defence of this reign.
Bryan Danielson Lays Down The Law
After the bell, Blackpool Combat Club would surround Omega three on one – with the music of Bryan Danielson hitting. He would come to the aid of Omega against his former allies – not approving of their recent tactics. Omega didn’t know what to think of this – but Danielson would offer to help him up.
Danielson would set Omega up for the running knee before the LeBell Lock was applied in the middle of the ring. Will Danielson challenge Omega next for this belt? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
