The Gunns shocked the world of professional wrestling when they won the AEW World Tag Team Championships from The Acclaimed.
They would follow this up by surviving a Fatal Four Way title defence at AEW Revolution – again proving they are used to being thrown into the deep waters. Tonight, they face another rising team in AEW in Top Flight, who look to be the team to take The Gunns down.
Another team watching closely is FTR – who returned at the expense of The Gunns at Revolution, and made their intentions clear last week.
Before this match, we’d get an update on the situation involving The Young Bucks. Brandon Cutler would claim that it was Blackpool Combat Club who attacked them, with 3x AEW World Champion Jon Moxley leading the charge. He already injured Evil Uno, and now might have put The Young Bucks on the shelf as well.
The Kingdom Screw Over Top Flight, FTR Make High Stakes Challenge To The Gunns
Top Flight would stay calm as this match began, sending The Gunns from the ring as commentary reminded everyone that Top Flight have a win over The Young Bucks this year.
The Gunns would manage to isolate Dante Martin in their corner, stretching the rules and making quick tags to cut him down.
Colton Gunn missed the jumping splash in the corner, but made the tag to Austin Gunn. They’d try to keep Dante cornered, but lost control.
Darius Martin would hit the ring with some speed, hitting a German Suplex on Austin and Standing Spanish Fly on Colton for a two count.
Dante would hit the Side Effect on Austin, getting another near fall. Nosedive was signalled, but Colton grabbed the leg before he dived.
Colton was taken out by Darius, and Dante hit the Nosedive – with Colton making the last minute save. Mike Bennett & Matt Taven would attack Top Flight at ringside, taking Darius out – and in the ring, The Gunns hit 310 To Yuma to retain.
After the match, FTR would hit the ring with microphone in hand. FTR said they’re not here to fight, but The Gunns would just say they don’t respect losers like FTR.
They lost three sets of belts and to The Gunns, and there’s nothing they can offer to get a title shot. FTR would put their AEW career on the line – meaning they either become AEW Tag Team Champions, or leave AEW forever.
Stokely Hathaway Ain’t A Killer – But Don’t Push Him
When Matt Hardy failed to win the FTW Championship from HOOK, the fate of Stokely Hathway was sealed. After blaming HOOK for a ‘broken arm’, Hathaway put himself in the sights of the dominant rookie.
Now, with his victory over the legendary Matt Hardy – HOOK has earned a one on one match with Hathaway, with The Firm banned from ringside. Hathaway is in over his head, and will now face the consequences of his actions in a No DQ match.
Hathaway would grab the microphone and said he’s not medically cleared to compete. He wanted to wrestle this match so bad, and his injuries are so bad that he’s gonna retire right here.
Hathaway even had a doctors note – but it was a Wing Stop receipt. HOOK would chase Hathaway around the ring, before tanking a diving headbutt. Hathaway took a shoulder capture suplex on the floor, before HOOK went under the ring for spare barricade.
HOOK would be sprayed in the face with a Fire Extinguisher, before Hathaway grabbed a steel chair. He’d quote 2Pac – “I ain’t a killer, but don’t push me” before walking into a suplex into the barricade in the corner.
HOOK would pin Hathaway, but pulled Hathaway up into Redrum for the win. Backstage, Ethan Page promised to avenge Hathaway and finally defeat HOOK.
Time For Story Time With Adam Cole
At Forbidden Door in 2022, we almost seen the end of Adam Cole’s in-ring career. His harrowing return from a massive concussion has been well documented – and he’s ready to start the next chapter of his career later this month.
With his in-ring return being something fans are desperate to know more about – Cole is set to speak here tonight, and could reveal more information on the match to come.
Cole is feeling amazing these days, and has never been more ready for a match in AEW. He’s ready to get back to what he loves – but who is his opponent going to be next week?
Before Cole could get a word out, the music of Daniel Garcia would hit. Since Cole has been gone, Garcia has been holding things down – becoming something of a locker room leader.
While Cole was streaming on Twitch, Garcia beat Brody King, Ricky Starks, Bryan Danielson, has been main eventing show after show – Garcia is the lifeblood of AEW. Cole wants to walk in and take the respect for himself – and Garcia wants to know what makes him special.
Cole would remind him that he’s a multi-time World Champion, beaten some of the biggest names, and all that is needed to make his special? The bell just needs to ring.
If Garcia wants to find out himself, he can meet Cole next week on Dynamite, and be used as an example of what is to come with Cole back in the ring.
