Tonight is the debut of All Elite Wrestling in Winnipeg, marking the companies second time coming to Canada. Both times have simply been for AEW Dynamite, but later this year – Canadian fans will get something truly special. Following up the success of the 2022 event, we’re set for another huge crossover event between AEW & New Japan Pro Wrestling – as Toronto will play host to Forbidden Door II.
Forbidden Door II To Kick Off Major Canada Tour For AEW
This was announced earlier today by AEW, there is a major tour coming to Canada this summer, with the biggest event in the mix being Forbidden Door II. The following was said in the press release about this event.
“March 15, 2023-AEW CEO, GM and Head of Creative Tony Khan today announced that AEW will begin a month-long excursion of Canada starting in June, touring across Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan for red-hot shows including “AEW: Dynamite,” “AEW: Rampage,” “AEW House Rules” and the highly anticipated return of the “AEW x New Japan Pro Wrestling: Forbidden Door” PPV.
After selling out the Coca-Cola Coliseum in minutes for AEW’s Toronto debut last October, Scotiabank Centre will play host to the “Forbidden Door” pay-per-view on Sunday, June 25, marking the second iteration of this groundbreaking event that pits the best and brightest talent on the AEW and NJPW rosters against one another. Tickets for “Forbidden Door” go on sale Friday, March 24 at 10 a.m. ET.”
In addition to Forbidden Door, Dynamite will be held in Canada on June 28th, July 5th, and July 12th – with Hamilton, Saskatoon, and Edmonton as the hosting cities. There will also be an AEW House Rules show as part of the annual Calgary Stampede on July 15th. The full press statement can be found here.

Canada Remains An Untapped Market For AEW
This is obviously a huge move for AEW in 2023. They have mainly been stuck to touring the United States since the companies inception in 2019 – with one set of Canada shows being the exception. Now, Canada is getting a full scale tour in the summer- broadening the touring schedule of AEW in a huge way. Add in their upcoming show in the UK – and AEW is starting to really get around to more of their fans.
Considering how historically Canadian fans are some of the most passionate in professional wrestling, this is a great chance for AEW to put on a string of shows infront of red hot fans. If the tour is a success, major tours of Canada might become more common – with plenty more provinces eager for live professional wrestling.
