Chris Jericho is one of the more recognizable faces in professional wrestling today. Signing with All Elite Wrestling in 2019, Jericho would become the first ever AEW World Champion – but that is not the only World Championship he won in the company. Last year, we would see the unthinkable – as Chris Jericho became the Ring of Honor World Champion, after Tony Khan had bought the company in early 2022.
Chris Jericho Being ROH World Champion Gave That Belt A Reason To Be On TV
While appearing on the In The Kliq podcast, Chris Jericho would discuss his latest reign as a World Champion, and defended Tony Khan highlighting the ROH World Championship on AEW programming.
“It was a great idea from Tony Khan. At the time we were using Ring Of Honor guys on ‘Dynamite’ and nobody knew what it was, or nobody knew what the point was, or what Ring Of Honor even was. … So let me give this belt a reason to be on the show.”
Jericho would win the belt from Claudio Castagnoli at AEW Grand Slam in September. He was successful defending it against various former ROH Champions like Dalton Castle & Bryan Danielson throughout the fall. At ROH Final Battle 2022 – he would lose the belt back to Castagnoli, before swearing off his involvement in ROH going forward.
Since then, we’ve seen the re-launch of Ring of Honor’s weekly TV – now airing on HonorClub. The next ROH PPV is set for later in March, that being Supercard of Honor 2023. It’s unlikely that Chris Jericho will be involved with this show – now focusing on AEW once again.
Jericho would also reveal that during his reign as ROH World Champion, he worked heavily with AEW World Champion Jon Moxley to help solve issues in the AEW locker room following All Out 2022 – stating the following.
“Mox did a great job, and I think at the time me being ROH Champion, I think I worked eight weeks in a row, I’ve never worked that much recently. I think it really helped AEW get out of this kind of weird situation we were in and grow.”
