Even though he’s back in WWE and poised for a massive title match at WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes is still keeping an eye on AEW and the friends he left behind. The “American Nightmare” even viewed a pirated stream to catch them in action during the 2023 edition of AEW Revolution.
Cody Rhodes Admits to Pirating AEW Revolution to Catch His Friends and Former Co-Workers in Action
Decades ago in Vince McMahon’s WWE, openly admitting to watching the competition or alternative promotions and indulging in the dirt sheets wasn’t encouraged. At that time, it was known that some talent followed those dirt sheets and watched the opps while Howard Finkel summarized what was said in the sheets.
Now, it’s not unusual to hear about wrestlers cheering out their peers and contemporaries in the industry. What is unusual is for an active, internationally-known wrestler to admit to using pirated means to watch the alternative. On the Good Karma Wrestling podcast, Cody Rhodes expressed that he caught the event to see good buddies Ricky Starks and Chris Jericho in action.
“I only saw some highlights from Ricky, I had a pirated feed, which I probably should have just figured out how to get the right feed. Not going to tell you who sent me that. I thought Ricky did great, really proud of him. Chris Jericho is an absolute legend, he’s more than a legend, he’s Chris Jericho. For Ricky to be able to deal with that and handle that in the way he did, very proud of Ricky.” (h/t: Wrestling Inc)
Cody also applauded the efforts of Malakai Black and Julia Hart. He also says that Black “was somebody that I loved our interactions with and I wanted to see more of that Malakai and it’s been a minute.”
