According to a recent interview, Prince William expressed his belief that if his mother, Princess Diana, were alive today, she would be unsatisfied with the current state of homelessness.
Diana Would Be Disappointed By The Homeless Crisis-‘Says Prince William
In 1992, Diana started supporting Centrepoint as a patron, which was 13 years before William became its patron in 2005. She introduced both Prince William and Prince Harry to the organization as children to educate them about the matter.
In a video for the charity Groundswell in anticipation of Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day, an annual fundraising campaign, the royal engaged in conversation with two individuals who have previously experienced homelessness.
In his comments, he said: “I think she would be disappointed that we are still no further on, in terms of tackling homelessness and preventing it, than when she was interested and involved in it.
“My mother introduced me to the cause of homelessness from quite a young age.” William supports two homeless charities, Centrepoint and The Passage.
Recently, he assisted The Passage in launching two facilities that can provide shelter to over 200 individuals annually. And as part of that process, he has seen the issue first hand.
William made the decision in 2009 to experience firsthand the way homeless people live by sleeping on a street in London.
In some prior comments, William remarked: “The work that I have seen first-hand over many years is the reason I know that ending homelessness must be thought of as more than simply a wishful aspiration.
“Instead, it should be viewed as an achievable goal.” Nevertheless, William was criticized for the following reasons.
First of all, his critics pointed to the fact that the Prince would not be able to understand such issues as he comes from a life of privilege.
Meanwhile, others were of the view that he needed to back up his words by doing more. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media, which were very scathing indeed.
One person wrote: “No Diana would be disappointed in you Willy boy for the horrible human being you have become. Go back to one of your many homes and continue to do what you do best. NOTHING.”
If this is something the Prince of Wales is passionate about, then it is something that could define his legacy moving forward. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
