Pro wrestling is arguably the most unique sport and entertainment combination ever created as it has so many different facets that can be promoted, focused on, broken down, and so on.
Add to that the age of social media, and it’s no surprise when someone does or says something that’s off color in some way that it’ll get shared everywhere.
Jon Moxley Unloads on Social Media and Backstage Drama at AEW
Often, it’s that person’s choice to share their thoughts and then face the consequences. Sometimes it’s for attention and sometimes it’s just their frustration.
One constant is someone is usually dragged into it by them, then fans ask more questions.
Heading off a rivalry
Recently, CM Punk made comments about Jon Moxley being difficult during their feud over the summer. Immediately, most of us wondered if Punk was starting something like with the media scrum or simply sharing his side of the story.
Speculation ran rampant, and since it was bound to come up, Moxley talked about it on “The Sessions with Renee” and he brought good insight and dialogue to the fore when he talked about the chaos involving AEW talent.
When he was asked if he wanted to comment on what Punk said, he replied (Special thanks to wrestlingnews.co for the transcript):
“No, because nothing has unfolded. It’s f—ing annoying. Just because somebody said some stupid sh-t on social media, like that’s not news, but it is and it ends up being a thing. I don’t want to get dragged into this dumb sh-t. I could f—ing unload on a lot of f—ing people right now.”
He went on to explain that he wasn’t under contract over the summer and could’ve walked into WWE SummerSlam with the AEW title if he wanted to, and he wasn’t beholden to anybody, meaning he showed up because he wanted to.
When their conversation then got to the chaos involving AEW talent, he said:
“I will say this, and I hate to say it. I don’t think I’ve ever said anything even remotely negative about AEW, but I will say this. As an observer, it seems like, you know, I spent eight years on the Indies. I spent a couple of years in WWE developmental. I spent like eight years in WWE. I have never seen so much bullsh-t drama in one place in my entire f—ing life. I hate to say that, but it’s like, and I don’t know if it’s because of the age of social media that sh-t gets blown out of proportion. Like one person types one stupid f—ing drunk tweet and all of a sudden, it’s all anybody wants to talk about.
“We’re sitting up here doing a podcast. You know what we’re not talking about? We’re not talking about the f—ing stellar match by Vikingo and Kenny Omega and all the cool stuff going on going on in AEW. We’re not talking about this great pay-per-view we just had. We’re not talking about any of that. We’re talking about bullsh-t. Like, let me be clear. The vast majority of people there don’t cause any f—ing trouble or any bullsh-t, but they’re getting sucked down into this sh-t like everybody else through the muck. There’s plenty of people who just want to get better and perform and f—ing just do this job, man. It’s the best job in the world.”
It was great to hear things come off from a straight shooter and as he handled is as professionally as possible.
