It’s extremely rare that being released from your WWE contract is a positive in a career. Losing your job with the biggest name in professional wrestling can be a crushing moment that some never recover from – but Matt Cardona is built differently.
Formerly known as Zack Ryder, Cardona was released from WWE in 2021 – and has gone on to completely reinvent himself. He has won the NWA World Championship, ruled the indies, and is now considered for a WWE return – but doesn’t feel the time is right yet.
Matt Cardona Will Find His Path Back To WWE When The Time Is Right – Is Overjoyed To See Chelsea Green Get Her Second Chance
While speaking with Casual Conversations with The Wrestling Classic, Cardona revealed that while he wants to return to WWE, the timing isn’t right yet – but he will find his path back.
Right now, he’s just glad his wife Chelsea Green has found her way back to WWE, as she never really got her run started the first time around.
“I would be lying if I said I never wanted to wrestle at Madison Square Garden again, Or I never wanted to have a WrestleMania moment again, or I never wanted to walk into Walmart and see my fucking Mattel Elite action figure on the shelves, of course. Yeah, of course, I do, but, I’m gonna find my path back there.
Chelsea Green’s back there now and when she got that offer, it wasn’t even discussed. She was a crucial part of my act on the indies, a crucial part. She had to go back. She did not have a cup of coffee there. She had the little Keurig pod put into the machine. You didn’t press brew, right? She had to go back and she’s absolutely killing it now. I am so proud of her to see her on Monday Night Raw. They bring her to SmackDown. Maybe she’ll have a WrestleMania match.
I am so so proud of her, but it’s not my time to go back yet. “
