Prince Harry indicated that not all British soldiers were completely behind the operations conducted in Afghanistan.
Prince Harry Claims British Soldiers Did Doubt The Afghanistan War-‘You Do What You’re Told To Do’
The Duke of Sussex acknowledged that taking out enemy combatants in the war was comparable to eliminating pieces on a chessboard during his controversial memoir, Spare.
And in a video broadcast in which a psychologist named Dr Gabor Maté was present, the Duke of Sussex appeared to try and avoid any criticism regarding his involvement in the conflict by saying he simply followed orders.
Dr Maté then declared that he did not support either side in the war. In his comments, Harry said: “Once you sign up, you do what you’re told to do.
“So there was a lot of us that didn’t necessarily agree or disagree, but you were doing what you were trained to do, you were doing what you were sent to do.”
The Duke’s critics have argued that Harry’s comments in his memoir had posed a security threat to the Prince. Col Richard Kemp, who is no longer active in service, suggested that terrorists who are in support of the Taliban could fire back.
Reports stress Harry had endangered British troops overseas, while other reports claimed that the Invictus Games could be targeted by terror attacks.
Anas Haqqani, who happens to be a representative of the Afghanistan government, had this to say: “The ones you killed were not chess pieces, they were humans; they had families who were waiting for their return.
“Among the killers of Afghans, not many have your decency to reveal their conscience and confess to their war crimes.”
Harry’s comments were always going to be contentious, and he may have alienated former personnel in the process. And there is no getting away from that.
So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
