With WrestleMania 39 quickly approaching, it’s time to find out who will be added to the WWE Hall of Fame this year. It’s one of the highest moments of prestige for anyone who has wrestled in WWE. To be placed among some of the biggest legends of the industry is huge, and the latest name to join the mix will be one of the greatest luchadors of all time – that being Rey Mysterio.
Rey Mysterio To Enter The WWE Hall Of Fame
Getting his start in the United States as part of Extreme Championship Wrestling, Mysterio was already being considered to be one of the best luchadors in Mexico from an early age. His time in World Championship Wrestling would make him a star, despite losing his mask along the way. Matches with the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and more would elevate their cruiserweight division – and when WCW closed, WWE would be able to sign Mysterio.
Putting his mask back on for WWE in 2002, Mysterio would quickly win over a whole new generation of fans. Even able to claim both the World Heavyweight Championship and WWE Championships over his career, Mysterio’s claim to being in the Hall of Famer is very clear. He’s still active in the ring today, expected to wrestle his son Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 39.
When it comes to who will be inducting Mysterio into the Hall of Fame, it’s been decided that will be Konnan. Having known Mysterio since he was just 11 years old, Konnan was pivotal in helping Mysterio make his way to the United States – and knows Mysterio as well as anyone else in the industry.
Other Possible Entrants?
It’s unlikely that WWE will only be putting one man in the Hall of Fame this year, with Mysterio being the first confirmed. One rumoured name is The Great Muta, who retired last month. Despite never wrestling in WWE, Muta is a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion in the United States, being a popular name from WCW. Muta wrestled Shinsuke Nakamura on January 1st, giving some easy footage to use for a Hall of Fame video package.
There’s also a good chance that this is the year that Batista finally goes in. Batista was set to enter the Hall of Fame years ago, but was unable to make it to the ceremony for a variety of reasons. With WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood this year, Batista would make a natural fit – being a major Hollywood star these days.
