A close Triple H associate—James Kimball, former Senior VP of Talent Operations and Strategy—was booted from WWE. The release came on February 24, 2023 as a result of an HR violation.
WWE Fired an Executive and Triple H Associate for an HR Violation
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter‘s Dave Meltzer said that Kimball came into WWE in 2020 and started as the VP of Business Operations. In his time with WWE he apparently performed well enough in the role that he was promoted twice. As SVP of Talent Operations, he worked with Triple H as the WWE legend took over creative.
A major contribution of his was the role he played as something of a scout. WWE’s Next in Line (NIL) initiative is important to picking up future talent for WWE which can be trained and cultivated from the start. NIL mainly targets collegiate athletes and Kimball pretty much saw who looked like a good prospect for the company’s training system.
Given the importance of the program to the Triple H era of WWE creative and Kimball’s duties in that program, it’s somewhat surprising that someone in such a pivotal position would get booted for HR violations. On that note, the details of Kimball’s firing hasn’t been revealed outside of what he did with the company and when he was released.
What damage—if any—this will do to the NIL program and who is next in line for the position remains to be seen. This is a hole in WWE’s ship that the company will be sure to patch up quickly.
