We’re just about one month away from WrestleMania 39. Set to take place over two nights, this is going to be perhaps the biggest weekend of WWE action in 2023 – and first major test of Triple H as WWE’s head of creative. However, despite being another two night event – not every WWE superstar is expected to get a payday from being involved on the PPV – as Triple H is looking to make both shows more concise cards.
Triple H Has Brought Down The Amount Of Matches On WWE PPV’s To An Average Of 5
This falls in line with the overall vision of Triple H when it comes to booking WWE PPV events. We have seen everything from major shows like Royal Rumble 2023 to smaller events like Extreme Rules 2022 as simple 5 match cards. This is also the typical amount of matches that fans expected from NXT Takeover events when Triple H was head of creative in WWE NXT – and has generally led to very good shows with a lack of filler.
However, while it makes sense from a quality point of view, it is an idea that hasn’t sat well with WWE talent – with many now set to be left off WrestleMania 39. Over the past decade, fans and talent have gotten used to having big Battle Royale events on WrestleMania, giving everyone a chance to be involved on the event. Last year, the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale was pushed to Smackdown Live instead, and that seems to be the case once again this year.
Celebrities & Legends Getting Spots Over Full Time Wrestlers Leads To Unhappy Mood Backstage
This combined with celebrities like Logan Paul getting a spot on the card facing Seth Rollins, as well as legends like Lita & Trish Stratus getting spots over full time talent has led to some unhappiness backstage in WWE. The talent who generally only get time to shine at WWE live events are likely in this bunch, who could have viewed WrestleMania as their chance to shine and get back to TV.
This is adding onto dwindling morale as a potential sale of WWE looms, which is a combination of very bad news for the state of WWE as they enter one of their most important times of the year. Triple H will have to tread carefully, especially as this is his first time booking a WrestleMania event.
