Tony Khan very rarely takes time from the AEW roster when it comes to TV, but tonight – he’s once again ready to bring a major announcement to AEW fans.
Last time he showed up, it was to announce the biggest event in the history of the promotion, that being All In from Wembley Stadium. It’s unclear when Khan has to say tonight – but it always has the potential to change the game of professional wrestling when he shows up.
Tony Khan Announces 2023 Owen Hart Foundation Tournament For Canada Mega Tour
Last year, we would see the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament – and this year, that is returning. It will take place in Owen Hart’s home country of Canada – with matches even set for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Hart won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship in NJPW – making that a fitting stage to celebrate him.
The finals will take place in Hart’s hometown of Calgary – which promises to be a special night. Last year, we would see Adam Cole win the men’s tournament, and Britt Baker win the women’s tournament.
It’s unclear who will be in the field this year – but we will get more information ahead of the opening ceremony at Double Or Nothing next month. This tournament being the centrepiece of AEW’s first major tour is a smart move – and should make it a tournament to remember.
Arn Anderson Wants Wardlow To Embrace His Dangerous Side
Wardlow is now a three time TNT Champion, and with Arn Anderson now by his side to help offer advice and strategy – might be more dominant than ever before.
Powerhouse Hobbs & QT Marshall fell to this duo last week – ending Hobbs time as TNT Champion in the process. Tonight, we will hear from a now re-focused Wardlow – and perhaps find his first challenger.
Before speaking, Wardlow would take aim at a local talent. Wind Up Lariat was enough to win the match, but Wardlow would conduct the Powerbomb Symphony – nailing three powerbombs as Arn Anderson cringed at the destruction. The crowd asked for one more powerbomb, and the TNT Champion scored a dominant win.
Anderson would explain why he aligned with Wardlow – he simply saw Wardlow as the future of AEW. However, Wardlow needs to embrace his violent side if he wants to get to that level – doing whatever it takes to get the win.
Christian Cage & Luchasarus would march to the ring, with Christain playing mind games with the TNT Champion tonight – not entering the ring this time.
