One of the biggest names in professional wrestling during the Golden Era of WWF was the chilling and calculating Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. Often considered one of the best talkers in the business, Roberts was the complete package – and remains in the industry to this day.
Joining AEW in 2020, Roberts has mainly been the manager of Lance Archer. However, health issues have kept him off TV – but AEW has still helped him every step of the way.
Tony Khan Is One Of The Best Men Jake Roberts Has Ever Met
While speaking with Steve Fall – Jake Roberts had a chance to praise AEW for standing beside him during his health issues after he dealt with COVID-19. Roberts respects AEW for supporting him, and especially respects Tony Khan.
“I was still trying to carry on, you know, having to use the machine (oxygen tank), but I was wanting to carry on with it, but they didn’t want me to go out to the ring with that. That was the whole thing and I respect them for that. It’s not like they sh*t canned me and told me to take a hike. They still took care of me and AEW is just wonderful to work for. They really, really are, and Tony Khan is one of the best men I’ve ever met.”
Helping Talent During AEW Dark Tapings With Interviews
When it comes to Roberts in his attempts to help the next generation of AEW talent – he would reveal that he’s on hand for AEW Dark tapings, and ready to share his knowledge.
“What I do is, once a month, we go to Orlando to do Dark. I go down there and I get with the guys and I help them do interviews. I try to teach them a better way to do their interviews, which I know how to do interviews. It’s easy for me, but these guys are, you know, they’re not used to it. They don’t get it yet, but I’m there to help them. I enjoy doing it, I’m happy to do it, and I hope to continue to do it.”
Roberts recently noted that he feels modern wrestlers push character work to the side, and that he feels that could end up with them being forgotten once their time in the ring is done.
