When Tony Khan started to hype up his latest big announcement in All Elite Wrestling, few expected him to announce that their UK debut would be in the historic Wembley Stadium.
Best known to wrestling fans for hosting Summerslam ‘92 – AEW is aiming big, with this venue seating upwards to 80,000 fans. They need to pull out as many big matches as possible, and Dax Harwood has a big idea involving CM Punk, FTR & The Elite.
Dax Harwood Feels CM Punk & FTR vs. The Elite Would Move Tickets For Wembley
While speaking with Raj Prashad of Uproxx, Dax Harwood would be asked what big matches AEW could potentially pull out for their biggest event to date. He went with a bit of an obvious pick, but still an effective one.
“CM Punk and FTR versus the Elite. That’s gotta be it, right? If you want to sell 50,000 tickets and take this company to the next level, that’s it, that’s me dreaming. That’s the dream match. That six-man tag in Wembley Stadium could help launch AEW to the next level.”
For those unaware, CM Punk was involved in a brawl with Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson following All Out 2022. All four men were suspended alongside others involved, including Ace Steel who was let go from the company. CM Punk was stripped of the AEW World Championship, and The Elite was stripped of the newly minted AEW World Trios Championships. Punk has yet to return, due to an injury suffered in his match against Jon Moxley during the PPV event.
AEW Can’t Afford To Play That Night Safe
While speaking about Wembley in general, Dax Harwood would express just how major this show is going to be for AEW – saying the following.
“Wembley Stadium is huge for AEW. AEW has to be ambitious right now. We’ve done so much as a company over the past three years that everybody said we couldn’t do. When Tony said we’re going to sell 20,000 (tickets at Arthur Ashe Stadium), that seemed ridiculous to people at the time. Everybody wants to keep moving the goalposts. Everybody wants to keep saying you can’t do this. I love that we’re going to Wembley because even if it’s not completely to the brim full, 50-, 60-, 70,000, whatever it ends up being, that’s huge for this company. As a company that’s only a couple years into its existence. You can’t play it safe all the time. The roster right now is so deep, why not go for it?”
