Since the start of All Elite Wrestling in 2019, Jon Moxley & Kenny Omega have been massive stars for the promotion. Both have held the AEW World Championship and have proven their skills – but view professional wrestling very differently.
This difference in philosophy has made them steady rivals, and recently – Moxley’s Blackpool Combat Club would target Omega’s Elite. Tonight is a crucial match in this rivalry, as Omega & Moxley clash in a solid steel cage. Moxley is familiar with being surrounded by steel, while Omega will be locked in for the very first time.
Kenny Omega Wants Moxley In The Ring To Start This Main Event
Omega & Moxley would brawl down the ramp before the bell even rang. Blackpool Combat Club members Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta would join to attack Omega, but were cancelled out by The Young Bucks.
Bryan Danielson was on commentary, watching as Yuta was thrown off the stage – getting up briefly, but sitting back down as Matt Jackson was thrown off the stage. Nick Jackson would follow them, diving onto the pile.
Security would gain control, with Omega getting into the cage – asking Moxley to follow so this main event can start. Moxley would agree, and the bell would ring.
They’d trade forearms and chops in the middle of the ring, with Omega switching to jabs before taking a rake to the eye. Moxley hit the ropes, only to run into a big boot.
Omega would hit the Rolling Fireman’s Carry, flowing right into a springboard moonsault for a two count. Digging under the ring, Omega grabbed a steel chair wrapped in barbed wire, and threw it directly into the face of Moxley.
Omega would stomp the chair into the back of Moxley, ripping the flesh – which is a normal Wednesday for Moxley.
Moxley would be slammed into the turnbuckle, bleeding from his forehead – and waking up to throw Omega head first into the camera.
Omega would try to get back into the fight with a springboard, only to be shoved into the cage. Moxley would look to use the chair, but took a basement dropkick – dropping the chair and being driven face first with the Kotoro Crusher.
Jon Moxley Knows A Thing Or Two About How Wrestling Rings Are Set Up
Omega would head to the top rope, but was taken down the hard way – with a superplex right onto the barbed wire chair. Moxley would grab the wrists of Omega and stomp on the head, before working to remove one of the turnbuckles.
Working in the industry means time on the ring crew, and now Moxley uses that knowledge for violence.
The turnbuckle was removed, with Moxley looking to hook the mouth of Omega for a submission. Omega would somehow not give up, and took the turnbuckle to the spine as a reward.
Moxley would look to strangle Omega using the attached ring ropes – which are high tension steel cables, the word rope being a misnomer when they’re used like this.
Omega would briefly get free, and Moxley used a slick drop toehold to take him back down into this cable assisted Bulldog Choke. Moxley would let Omega go, grabbing a bag of broken glass – a call back to the very first episode of AEW Dynamite.
Omega would try to hit a One Winged Angel into the glass, with Moxley countering into a sleeper hold – only to be dropped back first into the glass.
Moxley didn’t care, and popped back up into the choke – with Omega slipping free. A piledriver attempt from Moxley was blocked, and Omega nailed the V-Trigger to the ear. Moxley was the first man to his feet all the same, and was ready to trade hands with the heavy handed Omega.
Tearing The Cage Down, Only To Be Stabbed In The Back By Don Callis
A snap dragon suplex into the glass was blocked, but two V-Triggers would soften Moxley up, and the suplex quickly followed. Moxley would lean against the cage – and the force for the V-Trigger from Omega would break the cage, Moxley tumbling to the floor and Omega being caught in the ropes.
Moxley would be re-invigorated, tossing Omega back into the ring before grabbing a screwdriver. Don Callis would hit the ring to disarm Moxley, before Omega ran him into the broken turnbuckle.
Ripcord Knee Strike and One Winged Angel would follow – only for Don Callis to stab Kenny Omega in the back… and in the face with the screwdriver – handing Moxley the win.
Callis claimed that Omega was like a son to him, but something in him snapped. Omega didn’t know what to do in this situation – with Callis just shoving him away when he leaned in for support.
Callis whispered something in Omega’s ear in the process, and Bryan Danielson had a cheshire cat grin on his face
