We’re potentially only a few weeks away from the long awaited return of former AEW World Champion, CM Punk. Injured during his match with Jon Moxley at All Out 2022 and suspended due to a backstage brawl with The Elite – Punk was been not seen or mentioned on AEW TV for quite some time.
However, while there was a time where a return seemed unlikely at best, we now know Punk is ready to get back to what he does best. We even have an idea of who he will feud with first.
CM Punk Pitches Feud With Samoa Joe For Return
Over the past few months, we’ve seen reported that Punk is set to feud with Chris Jericho upon his return to the company.
They had a previous feud in WWE to build off of, and Jericho is a solid non-title main event feud for someone to have. Jericho is currently feuding with Adam Cole after his recent return, but is expected to finish that storyline at Double Or Nothing 2023.
However, while Jericho is down to feud with Punk – Punk was seemingly less keen on this idea. Instead, he has pitched a feud with Samoa Joe. This is something that is immediately appealing to fans of Ring of Honor, which is a group that ultimately includes Tony Khan.
For those unaware, Joe & Punk were two major names in the early days of ROH, and their matches over the ROH World Championship truly helped define the style of the company for years to come.
These matches are still looked at as some of the best in ROH history, but Joe & Punk have had sparse encounters following this feud.
This is what makes a feud between them in 2023 so interesting. They have vastly changed as performers since those days, but still remain masters of their craft. There is a fantastic story to be told, and plenty of call backs to be made.
A feud with Jericho could still come in time, but Punk feuding with Joe would likely be a more high profile and meaningful angle for everyone involved. Would you rather see Joe vs. Punk, or Jericho vs. Punk? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
