Sabu’s made an AEW appearance, Taz is doing commentary for AEW, Rhino’s busy in Impact, Rob Van Dam’s lost weight and looks in great shape, Tommy Dreamer is still doing the damn thing in-ring with Impact and his own House of Hardcore promotion, Stevie Richards is recovering, and Bully Ray is still very active in-ring with the NWA and Impact Wrestling while also balancing a wrestling school and a podcast.
Extreme is still pretty busy in the business and the recently released D-Von Dudley could become the latest ECW alumnus of note to return to be in the ring.
D-Von Dudley Isn’t Ruling Out a Return to the Ring Despite Back Condition and Nerve Damage
Following a lost to Neville and Sami Zayn at the kickoff to SummerSlam 2016, the Dudley Boyz were sent off by the Good Brothers tandem of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows who put D-Von Dudley through a table.
They were very involved with the company in their last run as a team. The veteran duo faced a few of the company’s tag team stars and were in feuds with The New Day and Enzo & Big Cass.
After that August 2016 match, D-Von wrestled four more matches—the last three were while teaming with Bully Ray. The WWE and Impact Wrestling Hall of Famer would return to WWE a month later as a road agent and backstage worker.
In his time backstage, Dudley would appear on-screen in a few angles including reuniting with Bully Ray to give Heath Slater the 3D at RAW 25 Years.
While talking with Chris Van Vilet, Bully Ray said that it was unlikely that we’d see a reunion of the Dudley Boyz/Team 3D given the D-Von’s health. Previously the 50-year-old had a nerve-damaging stroke and is still dealing with back problems.
D-Von Dudley sat with Chris Van Vilet and said that he was good shape but being careful with his health. He went into his discussion with Bully Ray about a reunion and what would need to be changed:
“Again, I just told him, like I started to say earlier about KISS being the greatest hits, all we got to do is hit the greatest hits. He said, ‘Yeah, you know, minus the Wassup. We have to re-modify that but 3D, the belly-to-back neck breaker, even somewhat LOD coming off the top rope when we clothesline him, because again a lot of times I landed on my stomach flat first. But then there was other times I went legs first, then roll. I like to call it the Hacksaw Jim Duggan- Nikolai Volkoff bump. You go to your feet, your knees, your hips and then go to your back. I can do stuff like that, I’m not opposed to it.”
As far as D-Von bumping and so on, the Hall of Famer said that while he was medically cleared to roll around in the right, he isn’t cleared for bigger bumps. Bully Ray mentioned as much while discussing why a reunion was unlikely. According to him, he is trying to get his footwork together and can at least once around for about five minutes.
The main thing he’s waiting on is for his nerves to actually work. With all of that said, he acknowledged that even if he can move around the ring and contribute to the match, he won’t be in ECW mode and he’s looking to at least continue to entertain the fans:
“I’m at the wrestling school, I’m rolling around again. I’m not doing this to say, ‘Hey, I’m making a comeback.’ I’m doing it for me, I’m doing it to get my body strong again. And that’s what I’m doing. So is there a glimpse of hope? Yes, there could be. I mean, I’m not saying no, but yes, there can be. But I got to also say there’s a possibility that it won’t happen again.”
Do you believe we’ll see the Dudley Boyz reunite in the ring for a match? Would you even care to see D-Von Dudley in action if his actions are significantly restricted?
