For the past 345 days, the WWE Intercontinental Championship has been held by The Ring General – GUNTHER. Defeating Ricochet for the belt last June, GUNTHER has made 10 successful defenses.
He’s dropped the likes of Sheamus, Rey Mysterio, Shinsuke Nakamura, Braun Strowman, and Drew McIntyre in title defenses, proving his ability to adapt to a wide range of opponents. Up next is Mustafa Ali, and GUNTHER is ready to crush his championship dreams.
GUNTHER Is Ready To Crush Some Dreams At Night Of Champions
While appearing on DC101, GUNTHER would be asked about his upcoming match with Mustafa Ali – and had the following to say.
“Yes, obviously it was little bit of an upset, but I think it means a lot to him to have that opportunity now, especially at the Night Of Champions which is hosted in Saudi. He just recently went there, I saw that to do lot of media appearances and stuff, and the reception to him was very well received .
So I think maybe that gave him the extra motivation. If you look at the finish of the Battle Royal, he was very intelligent at that situation and yeah, he earns his rightful opportunity for that and I’m totally up for it, to crush his and audiences dream over there.”

That reign lasted 454 days, setting a record which has stood for 35 years. The fact that GUNTHER has come so close proves he’s simply someone who is built different. He’s no stranger to long reigns, holding the NXT UK Championship for 870 days.
This match comes next Saturday, and is just one title match on a massive Saudi Arabia based PPV event. Other key matches include Rhea Ripley vs. Natalya for the Smackdown Women’s Championship, AJ Styles vs. Seth Rollins to crown the first WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
