There are few men tougher in professional wrestling than Jon Moxley & Tomohiro Ishii. Their first clash in NJPW during the 2019 G1 Climax is already the stuff of legends among fans, and their recent encounters in tag team matches have made fans crave the singles rematch That comes tonight, as Moxley & Ishii meet one on one for AEW Dynamite – as part of the fallout of Forbidden Door.
With Moxley set to return to Japan for some matches, this is a chance for him to tune up his skills against one of the best brawlers the country has to offer – and prove he can win without the help of the Blackpool Combat Club.
The Purveyor of Violence vs. The Stone Pitbull
Ishii would immediately butt heads with Moxley as this match began, before both men would trade chops in the middle of the ring.
Not even a minute into the match and both men would have red chests, and shoulder tackles would see neither man want to give up any ground. Ishii threw an Enziguri, with Moxley ducking.
The next exchange of strikes would be with forearm smashes – before Ishii was thrown into the corner. Ishii exploded back out with a shoulder tackle, knocking Moxley off his feet. Moxley would get dirty and bite the nose of Ishii, but The Stone Pitbull bit back hard.
Ishii was dropped to the mat and had his head stomped in – before being thrown to the floor. Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli would not get physically involved, but did ensure Ishii didn’t have much of a chance to avoid a suicide elbow smash from Moxley. Moxley would pose in the ring as Ishii would recover, before the music of Eddie Kingston hit.
Kingston would grab a steel chair, and chased Yuta & Castagnoli off – with Moxley getting into his face. Ishii would get some stiff forearm smashes in, before taking a neckbreaker on the apron. Kingston was in the corner of Ishii at this point, but would likely take any chance to brawl with his rival of Castagnoli.
Back into the ring, Moxley would stomp on the jaw of Ishii in the corner – with Ishii asking Moxley to bring his best. Ishii is a master at taking punishment and dishing it back tenfold, and every strike that Moxley threw would just serve to fire him up. One big shot would drop Moxley, who might have been out cold briefly.
Jon Moxley Earns Another Victory Over Tomohiro Ishii
Moxley would be set up on the top rope for a Superplex, and Ishii ensured he came down the hard way – but only got a two count. Rolling Lariat would land, before Ishii would again trade elbow strikes with Moxley in the middle of the ring. Moxley would start to tire before Ishii, but a big rolling elbow would knock Ishii to the mat.
Gotch Style Piledriver would follow, but Ishii would not give in – kicking out at two. Hammer & Anvil Elbow smashes would follow, Moxley bringing his elbow into the jaw – with Ishii just giving a middle finger as a defiant response. Bulldog Choke would be applied, but Ishii was able to find his feet and hit the Backdrop Driver.
Moxley would roll to his feet and hit a German Suplex, and Ishii rolled to his feet for the King Kong Lariat. This only got a one count, before Moxley jumped with a knee strike. Ishii didn’t stay down, and Moxley took a knee to the jaw for a one count.
They’d crash in the middle of the ring with lariats, causing both men to collapse. Ishii would hit a headbutt to the jaw, but a bloody Moxley was able to quickly hit the Paradigm Shift for a near fall. Moxley would land on his neck after a lariat, and Ishii was ready for the Sheerdrop Brainbusster.
Moxley would slip free and hit a cutter, but Ishii popped right up to his feet and hit the Sliding Lariat. Ishii would take a big knee to the jaw before the Death Rider – and this was still not enough to end this war. Curb Stomp would land before another Death Rider – getting Moxley the win. Best of all, he did it himself – as Kingston would point out.
MJF Wants To Get To Know Adam Cole Better
MJF was able to defeat NJPW legend Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door, but needed to cheat in every possible way to get to that result. Meanwhile, the match he set up for Adam Cole wouldn’t end up happening, as Cole was out with a cold.
While they hate each other, they are linked in the upcoming Blind Draw AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament, and tonight we will hear from the partners ahead of the start of this tournament.
MJF would praise the smart thinking of Cole in acting sick – he wishes he thought of that. While Cole failed to take the AEW World Championship from MJF, few people can. MJF thinks that Cole and him could run AEW together – a modern version of the Two Man Power Trip.
MJF would introduce a shirt for their tag team, and would suggest they hang out this weekend to get better acquainted. Cole would storm off frustrated by the sunny disposition of MJF – but did agree to hang out.
Can MJF & Cole co-exist as a tag team? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
