CM Punk is officially back in the ring for AEW, making his long awaited return this past Saturday for the first episode of AEW Saturday Collision.
Between his show opening promo where he stressed he won’t retire until someone can fill his boots, and a standout performance in the main event match – fans have few reasons to be concerned about the condition of Punk after his 2022 torn tricep. With any fears he lost a step firmly quashed – AEW fans are now buying tickets to see Punk, leading to a boost in ticket sales for the company.
CM Punk Already Helping AEW Ticket Sales
We would get an update on the ticket sales of AEW from Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer had the following to say.
“Uptick in ticket sales, though in a lot of markets since Saturday. The collision shows both shows – Collision and Dynamite. It sometimes only takes, you know, a big angle and people think there’s a big angle. The problem is there may not be a big angle, but I think people think that there is, because if you watch the TV, you would probably come to the conclusion that there is. And, so yeah, ticket sales are up for several of the shows.”
Meltzer would go on to comment on the ticket sales in the upcoming Canada tour, with some venues dropping prices to bring in fans. Punk’s influence will grow as his return run continues – and he ends up in an angle of some sort.
There was groundwork set for a feud with old rival Samoa Joe, and also jabs sent at the AEW World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk.
We can expect to see Punk in action at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door next Sunday, with a match likely to be set up on either AEW Dynamite or Collision later this week.
No opponent is clear, though there has been rumors of a long awaited match between Punk & NJPW’s KENTA – the man who innovated the Go To Sleep finisher.
