For the past year, the WWE roster has been dominated by three men. Led by the WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER – Imperium is a throwback in many ways.
With a hard hitting European style, GUNTHER, Giovanni Vinci & Ludwig Kaiser have proven that the mat is indeed sacred. One of the most close knit factions around today, there is no weak link – and GUNTHER doesn’t feel this faction has a need to grow beyond it’s current size.
GUNTHER Thinks Imperium Is Perfect As It Is
During an interview with Steve Fall for WrestlingNews.co, GUNTHER would be asked if he thinks Imperium needs new members. The dominant champion had the following response.
“We get that question asked quite a lot to be honest, and I always have to give the answer, no, I think it’s perfect how it is. I’m a big believer in never change a running system. I think too much in and outs can water a group down a little bit, if that makes sense. I think yeah, we’re all together for a reason. Nothing’s random there.
We all are tightly connected in our private life too, especially with Kaiser. Our careers went the same way since we started and there’s a history of that group for a long time before WWE. So it’s something that was just authentically there. As of right now, I feel like it’s good how it is.”
There was talks within WWE around the 2023 draft of bringing NXT’s Ilja Dragunov up to the main roster as a new member of the faction. His history in NXT UK & NXT with GUNTHER (then WALTER) in their wars over the NXT UK Championship created some of the greatest matches in WWE history.
Imperium was previously a four man faction, with German born Alexander Wolfe joining the faction. Wolfe has since been released from WWE, and wrestles frequently in Germany.
Another close member was Timothy Thatcher, who was a key member of Ringkampf – a pre-WWE faction that inspired Imperium, which was also led by GUNTHER. Thatcher was also released from WWE, and mainly wrestles for Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan.
