AEW CEO Tony Khan Tested Out AI Booking with ChatGPT and Got Expected Results

It seemed like the time when AI would write storylines for a wrestling organization would be far off but AEW CEO Tony Khan has explored that frontier and it went as expected. While speaking with CNBC, Khan shared his experience in testing ChatGPT out as an assistant booker of sorts.

AEW CEO Tony Khan Tested Out AI Booking with ChatGPT and Got Expected Results

At the moment, the need for an actual creative team should be obvious for AEW at this point. While Tony Khan managed to get the job done with AEW Dynamite, Rampage, and the company’s big events, the addition of a two-hour prime-time program Collision could prove to be a task for the young booker.

Of course, the brand split is supposed to alleviate potential stress and mess by organizing the roster in a way that pushes and storylines can be focused on. It would also allow for some talents who weren’t getting TV time because of the brick of main event and upper midcard talent getting storylines and TV time.

Sure, they were able to be on screens weekly on AEW Dark and Dark Elevation but it’s not the same as being on prime-time TV and getting that accelerated exposure. However, that doesn’t solve how to give the necessary creative energy to two shows while managing talent.

Enter ChatGPT. Tony Khan explained that he had tried it out quite a bit and that he went in knowing that ChatGPT only has knowledge of events and people up until 2021. Obviously, that would be a problem since the AI would have an outdated roster to work use when Khan asked it to write its “best version of AEW Dynamite.” On that note Khan added:

“One thing was giving it an updated roster. Another thing I thought was interesting was asking it to write a ten-segment wrestling show with nine breaks that is two hours long. Trying to format it out. It did the same thing everyone does when they first get into wrestling, and what all fans would do, and ideally, it’s a great thing, trying to put too much in versus what you can actually get done in two hours.”

From there, the AEW CEO had to retrain it so that it would book a show that could be paced within two-hours. Apparently, ChatGPT had some “solid ideas” and Tony Khan said that he could see people using it to “check their work or come up with ideas.”

What do you think of AI booking wrestling? Better yet: what do you think of Tony Khan testing it out at all? Could ChatGPT be blamed for poor booking? Let us know your thoughts down below.
