We saw the start of the Owen Hart Memorial Cup at Forbidden Door when CM Punk defeated Satoshi Kojima. Now, we get the first of three matches set for tonight on AEW Collision.
The only man in the tournament to share a ring with Owen Hart is Dustin Rhodes, who was part of WWE with Hart – and wrestled on the Owen Hart Tribute Show in 1999.
This tournament means a lot to Rhodes, but Powerhouse Hobbs just views it as a chance to raise his stock in AEW. He’s ready to write the next chapter of The Book of Hobbs, and will do it with Rhodes blood if given the chance.
Dustin Rhodes Puts Powerhouse Hobbs To The Test
Hobbs would hit a shoulder tackle on Rhodes as this match began, driving him into the corner for some quick strikes. Rhodes would manage a big boot before heading to the middle rope, and was lifted into a press slam. Hobbs would lose control of Rhodes, but a body splash would send him to the floor.
Rhodes would be left outside with QT Marshall, where he was thrown into the ring post as Hobbs distracted the referee. Now bleeding, Rhodes would try to fire up in the ring and managed his signature throat thrust. Snap Powerslam was blocked, but Cross Rhodes was not.
A Piledriver would land, but Hobbs was able to survive. Canadian Destroyer would follow, but even this was not enough to put Hobbs down. Marshall would distract Rhodes, allowing Hobbs to set up the Spinebuster – and Rhodes kicked out at one. Hobbs would not sweat this, knowing he still had this match won – but the snap powerslam put doubt in his mind as Rhodes got a near fall.
A cheap shot from QT and another Spinebuster – and Hobbs is moving onto the next round. There he will face the winner of Ricky Starks & Juice Robinson. Hobbs & Starks are former partners and rivals – making that a very interesting situation.
Miro Crushes Anthony Henry
Miro is a man without a god, no longer needing a higher power to guide his actions. Having shed the title of ‘God’s Favorite Champion’, Miro is no longer feeling the pressure that title placed upon him.
Now simply hungry for competition, Miro will be in action tonight as he faces one half of The Workhorsemen in Anthony Henry. A well travelled wrestler, Henry could provide a challenge for Miro – but toppling the former TNT Champion will be a tall task.
Miro would quickly corner Henry with some strikes, throwing him across the ring when he was done with him. Henry was thrown to the apron and battered with strikes to the chest before being brought back in with a suplex. Showing his MMA skills, Henry would unleash a flurry of strikes – only to be slammed hard into the mat.
Running superkick was already a KO blow – but Miro needed to send a point. He’d stomp the spine and apply Game Over – and Henry was helpless to survive. He would tap out, and Miro is 2-0 in 2023.
Will Miro chase gold soon? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
