For the past few years, Brian Cage has been one of the strongest men on the roster of All Elite Wrestling. Cage was originally brought in under the guidance of Taz, and would fight the likes of Jon Moxley & Darby Allin as part of Team Taz.
He’s had dips in TV appearances since then, with some feeling he was due to leave the company. Lately, he’s been part of Mogul Embassy with Swerve Strickland, and is one of the more hated members of the roster. While some of this is simply due to his status as a heel, Cage feels his physical shape makes him easy to dislike.
Brian Cage Feels His Attributes Lead Many To Feel He Belongs In WWE Instead
While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Brian Cage would detail why he feels his physical shape makes him an easy target for the hatred of AEW fans. Cage had the following to say.
“With our core audience at AEW, I feel they almost hate me because of all those attributes like size, charisma, mic work, athleticism. I almost feel like that screams WWE. In some regards, it’s almost like anti-me, ‘He doesn’t belong here. He’s too jacked, he does this,’ which are all positives in my book, but it feels like ‘I’m on the wrong team.’ I can toot my own horn and say, they can’t be me, so they’d rather attach on to a Darby Allin or someone they can live more viciously through as opposed to someone like me.”
Cage is able to lean into these WWE like attributes to help himself stand out in AEW. He’s one of the more physically imposing names on the roster, and has been show to be able to hang with the likes of Bryan Danielson & Konosuke Takeshita.
Cage is one of the most adaptable men on the AEW roster, and has won over a major supporter in Chris Jericho – which bodes well for future success in the company.
