There’s been plenty of talk about Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes completing their trilogy at SummerSlam, and there’s plenty of rumors going around about possibly seeing Lesnar crash the part at Money in the Bank.
This is just speculation, but given the belief that Cody’s match with Dominik Mysterio could be moved closer to the top of the Money in the Bank card, according to PWInsider, and it’s gotten the rumor mill started.
Brock Lesnar to Return at Money in the Bank?
Money in the Bank will air from the O2 Arena in London, England and there’s always room for change.
One of those is the possibility of Zelina Vega being bumped from the women’s MITB match in favor of Charlotte Flair, so anything’s possible until it actually happens.
Protecting the heel
In this case, it feels likely given the WWE has gone to great lengths to build up Dominik as a heel, and if he loses clean it’ll derail their plans in some ways.
And since run ins have become the mainstay in the WWE the last few weeks as Vince McMahon has extended his reach back into the creative side of things, there’s no reason to expect Cody to get a fair or clean win here.
It makes sense given the current trend for Lesnar to run in and take out Cody for Dom to get the easy win over him and continue getting the loudest boos of anyone in the business.
This would set the stage for Lesnar and Cody to close things out at SummerSlam with Lesnar seeming to prove Cody right that he’s scared of him, hence why he keeps attacking and trying to injure Cody to make it easier.
Of course, to buy into that we’d have to forget how Cody’s win against him was luck and he ran off like a scalded dog afterwards before Lesnar could get his hands on him.
Still, that’s history and the focus will be on Cody being a superhero and overcoming all obstacles, including a severe injury once more to claim victory on August 5th in Detroit, Michigan.
The right move?
It’s beyond obvious WWE is pushing Cody to be the top face and to stay there for a long time as he’s been taking on a sort of Hulk Hogan role in facing off larger bullies and threats to him.
The problem for us is if this is the main event, it feels like it’ll be syphoning off the energy of the Bloodline Civil War that should headline the show and be the talk of the town.
It doesn’t feel like the right time or place, but that’s not our decision to make and since there’s been no confirmation on Lesnar being there it may not happen.
