Since his return to WWE in 2022, Cody Rhodes has risen to the rank of the top babyface in the company. His time away in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Ring of Honor and All Elite Wrestling would reshape Rhodes into the complete package – and his rise to the top of the company in inevitable.
Winning the 2023 Royal Rumble, Rhodes had a chance to dethrone Roman Reigns – coming up short due to interference from The Bloodline. The night after WrestleMania 39 saw him start a new feud with Brock Lesnar, and after two PPV’s – they have a 1-1 record, with a third match incoming.
Cody Rhodes & Brock Lesnar To Meet At Summerslam In a Bullrope Match
Set to take place at Summerslam 2023, WWE are intending to make Lesnar vs. Rhodes III stand out using a less than traditional match. While fans speculated this could be a Last Man Standing or Hell in a Cell match – WWE are instead leaning in a different direction.
Right now the plan for this third match is to be a Texas Bullrope match, the signature match of Cody Rhodes father – Dusty Rhodes.
The bullrope match is one that Dusty would generally use to end his feuds, with them often being violent affairs. This makes it a perfect fit for Rhodes & Lesnar, who have done a good job building up a level of animosity between each other with their encounters on PPV and brawls on TV.
While the Rhodes victory is all but ensured given his trajectory in the company, giving the fans a brutal and unique match to close out this feud will help both men.
At this stage of his career, Lesnar excels at blockbuster style matches – with his Last Man Standing match at Summerslam 2022 against Roman Reigns standing out.
He’s shown clear enjoyment working with Rhodes, and is doing a great job establishing him as a main event name in the company. With just one match left in their planned feud – a bloody Bullrope match will ensure it ends with a bang.
The last bullrope match in WWE came at Great American Bash 2007 between Randy Orton and Dusty Rhodes. Would be happy to see this match type return? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
