‘General Hospital’ star, Nicholas Chavez (Spencer Cassadine) is reportedly leaving the soap opera after bagging a lead role in Netflix’s upcoming project based on real-life serial killers.
American TV writer, Ryan Murphy recently rolled out a Monster anthology series on the streaming giant. The first release tells the story of Jeffrey Dahmer, and it was successful!
Now, the makers decided to come up with a second season. The new release will tell the story of serial killer brothers, Lyle and Erik Menendez.
Will ‘General Hospital’ Recast Spencer Cassadine?
The production start date for Monsters: The Menendez Brothers, has not been decided. This means that when the production starts, Daytime Emmy-winner and a nominee for this year, Nicholas Chavez, will exit ‘General Hospital’ temporarily while he shoots his new role.
Due to the current state of the WGA writer’s strike, we don’t know yet when Nick would actually be leaving the show. Also, ‘General Hospital’ does not intend to bring in another actor to play the role of Spencer Cassadine, while Nick is away shooting his new project.
It is also uncertain how long the Netflix series will need Chavez to shoot for. As for Spencer’s storyline, GH would most likely write off the character for a month or for some episodes before the actor returns to continue playing his role as a Cassadine family member and Trina’s love interest.
It is uncertain how Chavez’ presumably long absence from the show will be incorporated into his character’s storyline. Perhaps he would be made to join his grandmother Laura’s futile search for his father, Nikolas, in Russia?
Nicholas Chavez is the 10th person to play the role of Spencer on ‘General Hospital’. He made his debut in 2021. His performance has been outstanding and he has won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series in 2022. He is also nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series this year.
