It’s hard for many professional wrestling fans to recall a time before Jim Ross was a frequent voice heard on a commentary desk. For decades now, Ross has been an earnest voice that fans have come to love – and has had some of the greatest calls in the history of the industry.
Since 2019, he’s leant his talents to All Elite Wrestling, helping with commentary and interviews – and helping out behind the scenes as a ‘senior advisor’. However, his contract with AEW is coming to an end soon, though he’s not concerned about this.
Jim Ross Is Taking Things One Day At A Time, Doesn’t Have Long Left On AEW Contract
While speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross would detail that he intends to return to AEW after his recent health issues – but doesn’t have much time on his contract. Ross was quoted saying the following.
“I will be back. I will continue working. My contract with AEW is still in place. I don’t have a lot of time left on it, but I’ve got enough. I’m not concerned about that. Either I’m retained, or I’m not. I’m just gonna take it a day at a time and see how it works out.
But I enjoy working for AEW. It’s fun to be part of a startup. I said that when I was hired. It’s great to see all these young guys start to come into their own, and I’d love to be there for the rest of the journey to help guide them along the way, almost in a talent relations type situation. I enjoy helping these kids.”
This is a situation that could easily go either way. Ross has stated numerous times he enjoys working with Tony Khan, but also has a deep history with WWE. We can expect Ross to remain engaged with the professional wrestling industry regardless of where he chooses to go when his contract finishes. AEW is very likely to make Ross a good offer, but anything is possible in the current landscape of the industry.
