The New Day have been the status of teamwork and togetherness for over a decade since they first came together in 2014.
They’ve held the various tag team titles several times and Kofi Kingston and Big E have experienced singles highs as WWE Champions recently and Xavier Woods has gotten a decent push for the Intercontinental Championship but hasn’t quite gotten there yet.
The Street Profits Looking to Emulate the New Day
As is often the case, their success has others looking to replicate the dynamic they have where the team isn’t broken up to pursue individual gold.
Amid rumors and expectations that The Street Profits were going to be broken up so Montez Ford could get a singles push, it looks like they could be staying together.
While Ford remains the high flyer despite bulking up significantly over the last year, Angelo Dawkins remains the team’s powerhouse and has proven to be just as athletic.
Finding their dynamic
With the New Day serving as guides, the Street Profits have been taking notes on how the New Day remains committed to each other and Angelo Dawkins recently appeared on “The Ringer Wrestling Show” and he talked about that and how fans have a fascination with teams breaking up.
“I think everybody is just fascinated with everybody breaking up. It happens everywhere.
“It happens in basketball, football, baseball, sports in general. Music groups start as groups and then they break off and you have that one dude who ascends.”
In general, having partners turn on each other is how teams have historically been broken up and the WWE often uses the Draft to do that as well. But the Street Profits have a plan.
They intend to support each other whether it’s as a team or making their way as singles competitors.
“For us, we’re trying to do what the New Day did. We’re always going to have each other’s backs. When he’s doing his thing, he had Elimination Chamber and he showed out. I was there for him and sending support and making sure he was good mentally and ready to go and shock the world, which he did.
“I ain’t climbing like that and flipping off it. We make sure we’re there for each other. Everybody, obviously they want Montez to be great, they want him to do big things. They want me to do big things too.
“They feel like we have to split up to accomplish those things. I don’t personally think that way. I think we can have each other’s back and then we have our side missions, going out there and putting on shows by ourselves.”
We love hearing this and it’s great that they’re going to stand by each other even when each of them chase after a dream.
It’s a cool behind the curtain moment that’s coming into their characters and we hope they find similar success as the New Day while carving out their own path.
