We’re entering a new era of WWE after the recent sale to Endeavour, who are the owners of the UFC. There is expected to be some fighters who move to WWE, and Jorge Masvidal is someone who is eyeing the squared circle.
With 20 years of MMA experience – including 10 years in the UFC, Masvidal is still looking for a fight despite his retirement earlier this year.
Jorge Masvidal Talks Potential Future In WWE
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Masvidal would be asked if he has any plans to join WWE. The former MMA fighter had the following to say.
“If the shoe fits, wear it. I’m very busy, but if the compensation makes sense, then let’s do it. If the WWE wants a savage like me, then sign me up. I’ll go over to WWE and domesticate those guys. I love fighting. If I go to WWE, I’ll put a hurting on them every night. I’ll torture them, make life f—— hell for all of them. No one over there can beat me.”
This would not be the professional wrestling debut for Masvidal, with him being involved with All Elite Wrestling as part of American Top Team. He would get physical with Jake Hager at AEW Grand Slam 2021, but never stepped into the ring. Getting someone like Masvidal in the ring could be interesting for WWE, but we can’t expect a full time deal to be made.
Masvidal would fit as a part time star, filling a role for a big match on a PPV. However, bringing in MMA stars has had mixed results for WWE – with Matt Riddle & Ronda Rousey taking to wrestling well, while Cain Velasquez was an instant flop for WWE. Masvidal has enough name value to test the waters of bringing MMA fighters in WWE as part time stars, as just showing some fight highlights could easily drum up fan interest.
