Drew McIntyre returned to WWE after being out for several months during July 2023. Prior to that, his last match was a losing effort for the Intercontinental title as Gunther retained over Drew and Sheamus at WrestleMania 39.
Although McIntyre was back on WWE television, there’s the issue of his contract coming up soon. Not only that but WWE isn’t really meeting Drew’s demands financially. It’s an odd situation considering how important Drew McIntyre is to the WWE and its product and plans.
Konnan Believes WWE Should Just Pay Drew McIntyre What He Wants as Contract Ends Soon
The superstar was off television following a program with Gunter over the Intercontinental title. Following that program, there is still plenty for him to do in WWE. As an in-ring performer, he delivers exactly what WWE knows he can do to a high quality.
If they need a hoss fight or monster brawl—Drew can and will do that. A WrestleMania OMG moment? Drew has those. Plus, he’s in TV-ready shape all the time. Finally, he’s important to the company’s presence in the UK and Europe. It would seem like a no-brainer that WWE pays what he wants.
Veteran booker and podcast host Konnan believes this as well and experienced the trouble of getting AEW star Rush for a AAA show because of money.
The main difference is that everyone knows WWE has a ridiculous amount of money and could pay the former WWE Champion. On his Keepin’ It 100 podcast, he shared his opinion about WWE taking so long to lock McIntyre down.
“You can use him to draw in f**king U.K. and the surrounding areas. He has so many plusses. He held the title for a while and did not do a bad job. He was always in there putting in the work, and he did it during a very hard time during the pandemic. Pay the guy. You’ve got the cheese.” (h/t: Wrestling Inc)
That’s it in a nutshell. It’s a case of WWE wanting a more favorable price and Drew McIntyre wanting a more favorable contract—and he has the work to support that request. What you think? Should Drew be a team player and be flexible with his demands or should WWE hand over the loot?
