We’re quickly closing in on the debut show for All Elite Wrestling in the UK. Tony Khan decided to go big for this event, bringing back the All In branding and booking the iconic Wembley Stadium for the show.
This is despite the Khan family having roots set in the UK with Craven Cottage arena, the home of Fulham FC – a football team owned by Shad Khan.
Tony Khan Looked Into Craven Cottage, But Wembley Stadium Made More Sense
When asked in a recent interview why Khan didn’t choose Craven Cottage, he had the following to say.
“There’s two places I thought about. One is also very dear to my heart, and that’s Craven Cottage. Wembley is, for a pro wrestling event, the more economical choice for many reasons. In that, you can have much more capacity for attendance since Wembley is a larger stadium by far, and also, the same wonderful charms of Craven Cottage and all the history of that magnificent venue. Craven Cottage poses so many challenges to loading in a pro wrestling event and it would cost millions more to produce the event at Craven Cottage than at Wembley.”
Back in May, Khan stated that Wembley is much more up to date in terms of being a venue, whereas Craven Cottage would require many renovations for a crowd of this scale.
Wembley also offers double the attendance, making it a much better choice. We can expect AEW to run Craven Cottage eventually, so long as the Khan family remains linked to Fulham FC.
