Orange Cassidy has been the most dominant champion in AEW history. 31 men have tried to find a way to defeat him and take the AEW International Champion, and 31 men have failed to complete their task.
However what they succeeded at was hurting Cassidy, as each defence meant more and more tape and support on the body of the champion.
Now, Cassidy is faced with the three time AEW World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley, who intends to be the man to finally figure out the puzzle that is Cassidy.
His message to Cassidy was to not let his fans down tonight – wanting the best Cassidy possible in the ring tonight, as he’s in his first AEW PPV main event.
Jon Moxley Looks To End The Most Dominant Reign In AEW History
In the same town where Cassidy showed the world his skills against PAC at AEW Revolution 2020 – he’d stare down Moxley. Moxley would instantly start to maul Cassidy, hitting chops and strikes – even biting the forehead of Cassidy. A stiff suplex would follow, before Cassidy found the top rope.
Moxley would catch the crossbody, rolling through and grabbing the wrists of Cassidy and stomping the head of the champion into the mat.
Throwing Cassidy to the floor, Moxley would take the champion into his world, and tossed him right into the ring post. Cassidy was bleeding, and Moxley would target the wound with a bite to ensure it flows true.
Moxley let Cassidy crawl into the ring and into the Piledriver – getting a near fall. Pulling off his wrist tape, Moxley would choke Cassidy in the middle of the ring.
He’d set up Cassidy on the rope – ask if this is the dominant champion he’s been told to respect before some crossface blows.
The referee would ask if Cassidy could continue, and got a yes. Moxley set him up on the top rope for a superplex, and Cassidy would prevent this with a bite. Knocking Moxley into the ring, Cassidy hit a diving DDT before a Tornado DDT – and struggled to his feet.
Orange Cassidy Isn’t Going Down Without The Fight Of His Life
Orange Punch was ducked by Moxley before some Funk Style Jabs and a stiff elbow smash. Moxley had a piledriver in mind, but Cassidy almost hit the Beach Break instead. Cassidy would not get the signature move, but set up Moxley for the PK.
Moxley would roll to his feet, and hit the piledriver before locking in the Bulldog Choke. Cassidy would try to reposition, but Moxley moved into a Rear Naked Choke.
Moxley would shift between holds, landing on Bryan Danielson‘s LeBell Lock – and Cassidy considered tapping out – before shifting again to find the bottom rope.
Moxley would pull up the padding on the floor – exposing cement floor beneath. Cassidy was set up for a Piledriver on the floor, and would save his career by countering for the Beach Break. Moxley would kneel by the steel steps as he looked to recover, and took a dropkick – his head bouncing off the steel.
Cassidy got in the ring and told the referee to count – okay with a count out victory if it means beating Moxley. The count would get to nine, but Cassidy was ready. Two Orange Punches landed flush, and Moxley was begging for a third – catching Cassidy with the cutter.
All Great Things Must End
Pulling Cassidy to his feet for the Death Rider, Moxley lost control and took another Orange Punch before cutting him down with a Spear.
Hands in pockets, OC would stay true to himself with some mocking kicks before turning up the intensity before winding up for the superkick.
King Kong Lariat landed on Cassidy rolled to his feet for two more lariats. Elevated Death Rider would land, and Cassidy would pop his shoulder up before the three count.
Moxley would size Cassidy up as the champion rose to his feet and gave him the middle finger. High Angle Death Rider landed – and he did what 31 men couldn’t, pinning Orange Cassidy – and becoming the 3rd AEW International Champion.
The reign is over, and Moxley had to fight harder than ever before to make it happen. It took more than defeating Chris Jericho, Hiroshi Tanahashi or CM Punk to win his AEW World Heavyweight Championships.
Orange Cassidy had the best reign in the history of AEW – and has proved himself as one of the greatest in the world. Moxley would leave with the belt and his Blackpool Combat Club allies.
Cassidy was left in the ring, as the crowd chanted ‘Thank you Orange’. His backpack is empty, his reign is over – but Cassidy is only human. He hit his limit, that limit’s name was just Jon Moxley. Cassidy stood on his own power, as the show went off the air.
