Jon Moxley has big shoes to fill as the new AEW International Champion. Orange Cassidy set the standard for the belt, with an insane pace of title defences – managing 31 over his reign.
This past Wednesday, Moxley would start the work of a champion once again – defeating AR Fox to mark his first defence. However, that wasn’t enough for him – and tonight, Moxley will have his third match of the week, as he defends the belt against Action Andretti – in his home state of Ohio.
Jon Moxley Wins Third Match Of The Week
Andretti would walk into this match with a 7-7 singles record in 2023, but his shock win over Chris Jericho in 2022 has Moxley ensuring he’s not taken lightly.
Forcing Andretti into the corner for a stiff chop, sending Andretti out to the floor and Moxley followed for a headlock and a punch to the top of the head. Andretti was put in the ring and used the high ground to his advantage, knocking Moxley off the apron before a suicide dive.
Back in the ring, a dropkick would put Moxley down in the ring for a Spinning Springboard Splash. Moxley was sent to the floor again, and an Arabian Press Moonsault would follow.
Andretti would side step a charging Moxley, sending him shoulder first into the ring steps. Moxley would have some issues with his knee, and Andretti would take advantage – putting the pressure on with a single leg crab.
Not one to accept this – Moxley would cuss out Andretti, talking trash while breaking the hold. Andretti was sent to the floor, and Moxley would take flight – landing the dive but jamming his knee.
Back in the ring, Moxley would bite Andretti into the corner before trying for the X-Plex. Andretti would land on his feet before being caught in a sleeper hold.
Moxley would let Andretti go, but a lariat was blocked by a dropkick. Andretti would hit the Falcon Arrow – but got a two count. A super backdrop from Moxley saw Andretti land on his feet, but a shotgun dropkick from Moxley followed. Andretti would drop Moxley with a kick, before the Spinning Crossbody.
Trying to pull out a Blackpool Combat Club trick and stomp Moxley’s head would leave Andretti open, and he’d be popped up and into the Rear Naked Choke for the victory.
Jade Cargill Returns To Drop Kris Statlander Herself
Kris Statlander is the second woman to hold the TBS Championship – and has taken to being a champion very well. Since Double Or Nothing 2023 when she returned from injury – she’s managed 8 title defenses, defeating the likes of Ruby Soho, Nyla Rose and Taya Valkyrie. Tonight, she has issued an open challenge – and intends to test her skills as a champion once again.
Robyn Renegade would answer the challenge – with her sister Charlette at ringside. Statlander was taken into a wrist lock as the match began, before breaking free.
A double knee strike in the corner would see Statlander catch Robyn and try to complete the slam. Robyn would choke Statlander on the middle rope, before taking the referees attention and letting Charlette get some blows in.
Statlander would get back in control with a roundhouse kick and a running elbow. Blue Thunder Bomb got the near fall, with Charlette getting involved for a moment.
A roll up from Robyn got a one count, before a facebuster for the two count. Statlander would again recoup, and get the European Clutch off the ropes for the victory. After the bell, Charlette would attack, and the Renegade Sisters would attack Statlander together.
Suddenly, the music of former TBS Champion Jade Cargill would hit – and would save Statlander from the sisters. She helped Statlander up, and dropped her with Jaded. Statlander is her target, and Cargill wants her belt back.
